I do not understand the buzz about whether Eric Clapton will make an appearance with the ABB at the Becaon 2009 40th Anniversary run. If you want to see him so badly, go see him-he certainly plays enough!!!!

Because he's an international superstar who played with Duane?

Just a guess....

I just want to see Eric and Warren together. I always thought that would be a good mix. But perhaps Warren intimidates Eric because of the singing, writing and playing aspect and he knows that in another era that it would have been

Warren
Is
God

Just having some fun so everyone relax.

I think it would be a great guest to sit in. Now the important part would be song choice but I agree with some that state that it would be too predictable. Either way it would sound good as always.

A 4 hour show and play Layla in its' entirety.

Why all the fuss about Clapton possibly performing at The Beacon???

And the answer is......

DUANE ALLMAN -- guitars
ERIC CLAPTON -- guitars & lead vocals
JIM GORDON -- drums, percussion & piano
CARL RADLE -- bass & percussion
BOBBY WHITLOCK -- organ, piano, vocals & acoustic guitar
TOM DOWD -- executive producer

EddieP answered the question, and his answer explains why it was a ridiculous question in the first place which any true ABB fan already knew the answer to: Clapton has intimate, ancient ties to The Allman Brothers Band due to his musical relationship with Duane.
I personally would be drooling all over myself in anticipation of just seeing Eric standing onstage with them. And yeah, they ought to do the ENTIRE Layla record when he does!!!!

Robslob, I am keely aware of how Clapton is tied to the ABB, I am more interested in the fuss in connection with whether folks think Clatpton will in fact make the trip if invited. Everyone knows the connection, not everyone thinks he will show-thats really all I wanted to know. Maybe I should have worded my question better but it did say whether he will make thge appearance not WHY he should. So go drool on yourself....

You know, I haven't even thought of that, but, if indeed EC shows up I guess its possible.

In fact, it could play out something like this:

Clapton: Okay guys I'm here and I couldn't be happier for you - so what do you want to play?

Derek and Warren each with an arm around Slowhand: Well, since you're here....how about The Layla LP!

Clapton: All of it?

Warren and Derek: Yeah, all of it!

Clapton:
Ummmm Okay, sounds good mates! Let me get my gear!

We can only dream....for now.

Being a huge Clapton fan, I guess I'm a little biased. This would be my dream concert.

Love that idea about playing the Layla album. Eric and Derek played most of it on EC's last tour, and the ABB already play a few Dominoes songs, so everybody would be up on the material. And for an encore -- Mean Old World...

And for the people who think we're too serious about this or feel Clapton will never show up, hey, we're just having fun. It's sort of like a fantasy football league. Just because you want it doesn't mean it will happen, but it's fun to think about it and talk about it. And this stuff is supposed to be run, right?

It is supposed to be fun and that was the intention. However, some folks just can't resist sticking it....

Did you see the thread last week with the Gregg interview where he said he emailed EC and asked him to come and EC said 'no matter how I have to bend it It will be an honour to be there'. I think we are beyond buzz at this point.

I did see that post about the email to EC, but if he was coming he would have said he was. To me, it still just sounds like a wish and not a certainty....

"I did see that post about the email to EC, but if he was coming he would have said he was"

"EC said 'no matter how I have to bend it It will be an honour to be there'"

If that isn't saying "I will be there" I'm not sure what else the man needs to say.

Do you need something signed in blood? Seems pretty clear to me...

Thanks Rob, I can't find the thread but it was a local paper interview with Gregg around the Raliegh show I think.

All this fuss will lead to most of us not being able to get a ticket. If I went to an Allman Brothers show I wan't to hear the Allman Brothers not a clapton LP. I was much more excited about the comment gregg made about playing everything they ever recorded. I would have to buy every Instant Live. Would it be nice to have him play a few songs sure.

Does anyone have a link to the interview with Gregg where he talks about Clapton and the Beacon? I want to email it to a friend of mine.

What EddieP said ... plus his recent work with Derek ... plus it's Eric Clapton - he's one of the best!

I am a huge Clapton fan. My point is not why Clapton should attend ( I think I know why) but will he? Even though he said he would, by my reading, in non-committal terms, do you think he will be a no show? Why or why not....
