Dickey and the band are going to be playing at our P-nut fest in Suffolk Va next Sat. night. I have not seen him since i booed him at his last Beacon show. The show is free so I was wondering if anyone has seen them in the last couple of weeks. Is he sober enough to do a whole show? ( I am not a Dickey hater I just did not like him at the end.)

How can you boo a Brother? Everyone in the band has a rough time at one time or another, and that was 8 years ago. Dickey sounds and looks great.

I can vouch that Dickey is back and his usual bad ass self! He and Great Southern flat out smoked The Neighborhood Theater in Charlotte, NC back on 6/13/08. I got plenty of witnesses.

Because I paid aiirfare, Beacon hotel rates and ticket prices. It was the most dissapointing ABB show I had seen since 1971.

If it is local and free, why not do it!! I paid 75 bucks to see Dickey in the May of 2007 and it was money well spent.

Exactly! I spent airfair, tickets, room....a lotta dough in July 2007 to see him. Worth every penny!! Hope to do it again as soon as I get my pocketbook back in order.

If I had a free Dickey Betts show happening in my town I know for sure what my decision would be regarding whether or not to go. GO!!!

Go for if it's free. I have heard he's really playing a lot better now with a tighter band. A lot of these folks have seen him since the last time I did.

I have seen a couple of shows in the past where he was off key for the show, one where he was pretty wasted...I know because I hugged his neck before the show, he acted like we had been friends for years...he was laughing. He was feeling no pain, but he was a little sloppy on stage and his old band members were red faced and pissed at him.

But to me he's like Hank Williams, a music Icon, Hall of Fame legend....he's has more good nights than bad and just to get to see him live again is good enough for me.

But I would never boo him, even if he fell down and passed out on the stage during his first song. I love the man for who and what he is.

By the way I was sober, but I had taken 3 hits of acid.

Just kidding, I was stoned to the bone.

I haven't seen Dickey since 2002. It was at Magnolia Fest, Live Oak, FL. 10-18-02. That show was incredible. Amazing band. Dan Toler on guitar. Everybody was smokin in that band. Get a copy of that show if you can. There is a SBD available. It rocks.
If the word is that he is really good again, I would go see him. He does alot of Allman brothers tunes you probably won't hear at an ABB show right now. Dickey is a huge legend and an amazing song writer, writing tunes that are going to be around for a long, long time. And he can jam on guitar! I just hope he is sober or not drinking too heavily. Go see Dickey and his band!

I have seen DB&GS when Danny was in the band 2002 at Westhampton I believe it was Aug. and they were really great ...
I must say thou.... I think this is my favorite line up in this band... I think all these musicians have lots to say musically.. and I am< LISTENING >...

I agree - to me that was Dickey's best lineup by far, with Danny. Obviously we should all check out Dickey any chance we get regardless of the players. Even on one of his off nights it is still a great experience just to see him again. Afterall, its still Forrest Richard Betts . I always felt Dickey had a certain chemistry with Dan that he has yet to achieve with Andy or his son Duane. I personally don't like the 3 guitar lineup, it's just too chaotic and awfully loud at times - 3 Marshall stacks in very small clubs is very tough on the ears. And although Duane is a nice player, he is sort of like Dickey-lite to me. I understand Dickey wanting to play with his boy, but I would really like to see a two guitar lineup again. I also really wish he should add some songs to his setlists. Dickey has almost a 40 year history as a player, but for some reason he sticks with the same 15 to 20 songs tour after tour with just one or two alterations. Not nearly enough in this fans humble opinion.

There is a two-guitar lineup with Andy Aldedort, who is damn fine up there. In fact, he and Pedro on bass are essential to the quality of the band. Let me sing Pedro Arevalo's praises some more. I've seen Honeytribe with Pedro filling in for the regular bassist and although that's a fine outfit, they seem to kick it up a notch with him on bass. P.A. is a man to watch when DBGS are up on stage.

If you have not seen him for whatever reason then you missed some kick ass music..I have seen him on all his tours since he last played the Beacon with the rest of the ABB...I loved the Dan toler line up the best..The guys a Legend I mean the ABB can not be the ABB without playing his music..I always look forward to hearing Blue sky and Back where it All Begins...By the way the Paramount show is in Asbury Park New Jersey not New York.. That venue is great if yan can go I would say do not miss this one...I saw Levon Helm there last year an had a blast...
