From what I'm hearing this morning, I get the impression the Obama supprters have made the decision to build Palin up. I'm hearing what a great debater she is, and that she will do very well. I know it is a common tactic, but it seems like a hard one to pull off. Does anyone really think she can debate?

the lower the expectations, the easier it is to say
"SHE WON "

higher expectations
(like those of a truly credible candidate)
and she disappoints everyone

just my theory

I don't think it's sandbagging to expect something intelligent, regardless of whether or not you agree with it, to come out of a candidates mouth.

Is that from comments here at the WP or throughout the media. That's not the feeling I get. I don't hear many from either party saying she will do well if there is actual debating involved. I hear that there are ways for her to 'win' (or not look like a complete idiot) the debate that have nothing to do with actual debating skills. With less time for answers and less time for Biden to actually challenge her, she only has to divert attention from the issue at hand briefly.

Yes, the expectations are low. So if she answers one question concisely, using her own thoughts and experience, without dragging some rehearsed canned answer out of her hat, image the response. Heck, even I'll be impressed and I've go NO horse in THAT race!

I was talking about on the cable news channels. The tone seems to have changed a little.

My problems with Palin have nothing to do with these issues.

How are all the things you've posted about Obama over the last several months any different from what you see others do to Palin?

Same here. I'm more concerned with the lack of knowledge and sustenance when she speaks.

No, I think she will smile, equivocate, and talk without ever answering the questions.

I agree Luke...

send soldiers off to war,
steal from your constituents,
pander to your corporate sponsors,
refuse to testify,
lie repeatedly,
hide from the truth...

ALL with "no feeling of remorse or accountability"

I believe she probably is a good debater when she has a grasp of the subject matter that she is debating. She seems to be somewhat smart. However, she is not debating about bridges to nowhere or oil pipelines in Alaska or the thinning of wolves.

She obviously to me anyway, has very little grasp of any of the main issues that face our country and that is why I don't think she will do very well tonight.

I think John McCain will be kicking himself tonight for the choice he made. He will start to picture all of the other candidates that could have been up there debating for him.

She doesn't seem that smart to me. She went to five colleges to get a bachelors degree.

I'm a carpenter. She's a Governor. I hardly think I'm in a position to be "condescending."

But 5 small colleges. Come on. Think of the other people you know who went to five schools to get an undergraduate degree. Know any? Were they partiers?

don't forget, palin has debated before during the Alaskan governor run.
