Women's shelter cuts Bernhard after gang-rape line

BOSTON — A women's shelter on Wednesday cut headliner Sandra Bernhard from its annual benefit after she said Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin would be gang-raped if she ever visited New York.
Bernhard's made the remarks last month during her one-woman show in Washington before Palin visited New York to campaign. Bernhard said Palin would be "gang-raped by my big black brothers" during a diatribe in which she also criticized Palin for opposing abortion rights.
Many guests at Rosie's Place, a Boston shelter, have been victims of violence, public relations director Leemarie Mosca said.
"In light of our mission, we don't think violence against women is a laughing matter," she said.
Mosca said the shelter expected to book a replacement before the Oct. 16 luncheon "Funny Women ... Serious Business."
"Right now, our main focus is our event and making sure the event is a success," Mosca said. "And for us, that means not including Sandra Bernhard at this time."
A representative for Bernhard had no immediate comment on the cancellation.
In a statement on her Web site, Bernhard said the gang-rape comment was part of a larger piece from her show about "racism, freedom, women's rights, and the extreme views of Gov. Sarah Palin — a woman who doesn't believe that other women should have the right to choose."
"I certainly wish Gov. Palin no harm — I'd just like her to explain to me how she can hold such outrageous views ... and then go back to Alaska," she said.
Bullsh*t. I'm sure that's exactly what Bernhard and her ilk would like to see happen to Palin. Just another case of someone in showbiz getting political and shooting themselves in the foot with their mouth. ~BDOB~ ____________________

A totally disgusting person. I've always hated her and could never see her appeal, visually or as a "comedian." Her comment about Palin was equally as disgusting. ____________________ "Live every week like it's Shark Week." - Tracy Jordan |

I've always found Sarah Bernhardt to be pretty disgusting, and still do.
I'm curious about your comment, Dave. Do you really think she would like to see Sarah Palin gang-raped? And who are you referring to when you say "her ilk?"
I don't know of anyone who would like to see someone raped, by one or a gang. I'm curious to know who you are talking about. ____________________

Militant, lesbian, man haters.....and Republican haters, Allen.
For the record, I think you can be a Democrat and not HATE Republicans, but there are some out there who despise others simply because of their political affiliation. And visa versa. ____________________

But you said you think they would like to see her gang-raped. Why would a feminist want to see another woman raped? Why would a "man-hater" want to see a woman raped? And why in the world would a "Republican-hater" want to see a woman raped? Just because she is a Republican?
I'm not following you, Dave.
Again, I don't think I've ever met a person who thought someone should be raped because of their political views. ____________________

Tasteless and stupid. And using this brand of 'humor' in the setting she was in just goes to show how out of touch she is. ____________________ "Come on down to the Mermaid Cafe and I will buy you a bottle of wine, and we'll laugh and toast to nothing and smash our empty glasses down..." |

Allen, I've read enough of Dave's posts to know that he would never wish that on anyone. I like both of you guys, you are two of the best guys here. Dave had no ill intent other than to show what an idiot Bernhard is.
I know Dave doesn't wish it on anyone. I'm surprised he thinks other people do.

As I SAID in the other thread, I feel PRO-LIFE should be the Supreme Court postion and the LAW OF THE LAND, AND of course it should have PROVISIONS to deal with RAPE, INCEST, HEALTH OF THE MOTHER, a very sick unborn baby, etc. I'm only saying to ERR on the SIDE OF {LIFE} ALLOWING AN INNOCENT CHILD TO BE BORN. And LET a WOMAN also have some SAY/CHOICE, but don't leave it all up to just ONE PREGNANT WOMAN.
I thought you weren't going to mention this again. So much for keeping your word. Would you please shut the eff up about it.....or start a thread and we'll talk about it there.
As for 'this woman'......I've never enjoyed her brand of comedy. She just isn't funny and I'm glad she was dropped. I don't think Sandra Bonehead is referring to her( Palin's) political views.
It's jealousy and envy. trust me.
political views are too frivilous a topic for something that ugly to be said.
all these comments about Palin, especially the ones referring to her looks, where do you think that comes from, someone disagreeing with her politics!!!?
no, someone jealous and envious. Remarks like this...and others, are a reflection of the person making them and lies in the roots of their being. |

"As it appears many women are"???????? Please, do tell, who are all these women? Oh, and if you call Palin "gorgeous" then Palin isn't the only one setting a bar really low. |

I don't know what is is her heart, either, and I only brought it up for the sake of a thinking discussion. It's not that big a deal.
It was a pretty disgusting thing to say, even in jest. ____________________
