Why are the Bands not billed by their names?

This was posted by someone on the listserv:

"I would rather think that is for legal/tax reasons. Basically the performances are "in-kind" contributions from the performers. The performers can make contributions to campaigns. The bands, as legal for-profit corporate entities cannot make that type contribution, under the law as currently written."

Going to see the Bro's play this gig will create quite a quandary for a lot of folks here I would imagine.

Too bad they have to go up north to do that. No guts. Try playing that gig in Alabama, Miss., La., Ga or another deep south area.

Makes total sense about the billing Tarzan. With over 30,000 students there, tickets will go quickly , unless there's a limit on student sales. I saw a few shows there. Would be a nice road rally to get there, but such a bad date to do so, getting Tue off is rough. I have the free place to crash up there as well.

You mean anyone actuallyl still pays attention to that gasbag pillhead?

A question, posed many years ago by Gary Trudeau in Doonesbury. "What's the difference in Rush Limbaugh and the Hindenburg? One is a large Nazi gasbag, the other is a dirigible"

Always hate to see it when one of my bands picks up a political cause. Anyone know of a good Libertarian band? Aside from Rush (they're more the Ayn Rand Objectivist type anyway, which doesn't quite jive with me either).

Agree - It's always disappointing when artists use their stature to lecture us from their artificial bully pulpit. I love all of these musicians for their music but I don't need them to tell me how to vote. Obviously, it's their right and all that blah, blah, blah. It's just disappointing to me that they can't play a fundraiser for a non-partisan cause. How about banding together to play a concert to benefit the families of fallen troops instead of raising a bunch of $$$ so Obama can run commercials slandering his opponent. For the record, I would be equally disappointed if the concert was to benefit McCain.

I don't see the problem in these two great bands trying to facilitate the only viable avenue for not having another four years of this **** .

Substitute any other profession for musician/artist in your post and it would make just as much or as little sense. Nowhere is it written that musicians have some exalted status in our society and therefore need to stay above the political fray. They have chosen to contribute to a campaign in their own way, just as anyone else may. If you want to donate your time to a McCain phone bank, I would never think to criticize you for that.

To question someone's choice of contribution over one you feel more worthy is, well, tacky. Someone who contributes to soldiers' causes (or local little league, or some other cause) would not appreciate it if another told him his time should be spent elsewhere. We all get to choose our own priorities. The ABB did a benefit for Atlanta's Piedmont Park last year, by the way, and I appreciate it.

I have no problem with theses bands doing this. The message is out there before you buy a ticket...if you come here, money is going to a political candidate. Don't like it...don't go.

Its not like Butch stopped drumming during JaBuMa, at the Beacon, to lecture the audience about politics.

It's an opportunity to see a one off performance by members of two great bands.

Not a big deal to me. And tix are CHEAP. $50.00 is very reasonable.

Who cares about the election? Choice between two dimwits, it will make very little difference who wins, IMHO.
