What Peg said! Only one Jimi! What a joy and revelation it's been to experience, even from afar, his presence in the music scene.

Jimi Anyone who is a fan of Jimi should get out and see Andy Aledort who is touring around with Dickey Betts and Great Southern.. when they are off the road... Andy has his own band The Groove Kings and they play around the New York and Long Island area..... A huge Jimi Hendrix influence.. really great... ya outta see 'em

I was 21 and was circumnavigating South America in the US Navy when the news came over the teletype.

But I count myself as very fortunate to have seen the origianl Experience twice.

I somehow let this anniversary slip past me, but I must have been aware of it subconsciously because I'm wearing my purple Hendrix tie-dye today

Anybody want to hear the last show the Jimi Hendrix Experience ever played? PM me....

That was the Denver Pop Festival at Mile High Stadium in June 1969. Apparently there were riots outside the stadium due to gatecrashers. Tear gas filled the air and everybody inside was forced to breathe it in.

Iron Butterfly, Joe Cocker, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Aum, Zappa, Johnny Winter and Tim Buckley were also on the bill besides Hendrix who was the star attraction. CSNY did not appear although they too were billed.

Yep, that's the one! A little sloppy at times, which is no wonder considering the circumstances, but some really exploratory versions of Tax Free and Spanish Castle Magic, as well as a KILLER version of Hear My Train A-Comin'. Sound quality is pretty good too.

Nothing that a casual Jimi fan or Jimi hater would appreciate, but a nice rare treat for the hardcore Hendrix fan, and if you've read this far on this thread, that means YOU

Also some other final Hendrix shows worth picking up:

9/6/70 Isle of Fehmarn Love and Peace Festival - Jimi's last official gig took place on an island in Germany. Similar vibes to Altamont with Hells Angels causing havoc and assaulting concertgoers. Many bands decided not to play. Hendrix received an initially frosty reception from the crowd that booed his late appearnce (he was supposed to perform on the 5th). Luckily he won over the crowd very quickly and played a good set. Several decent audience recordings are in circulation. One of which is known as the "Windy Tape" as you can hear the cold wind blowing through. I believe this is the source that was used for the offically-released bootleg.

September 16, 1970 Ronnie Scotts Club,London is Hendrix' final onstage performance. This is basically an Eric Burdon & War gig. Jimi was onstage to jam during two numbers: TOBACCO ROAD and MOTHER EARTH. This show also circulates as an audience recording.

A true genius. My life has been richer for his existence. Apart from his guitar playing, which I consider to be the finest electric playing I've heard, he was a brilliant songwriter (both music and lyrics) and an amazing record producer (Electric Ladyland) and as great as he was, I firmly believe that he was just getting started. I have a dvd set of Hendrix at Woodstock which contains these lyrics for a song sketch about Woodstock I guess he never finished:

500,000 halos outshined the mud and history
We washed and drank in God's tears of joy
And for once...and for everyone
The truth was not a mystery.
Love called to all as we passed beyond the walls of Nay
Hand in hand as we lived and made real the dreams of men.
We came together..danced with the pearls of rainy weather
Riding the waves of music and space.
Music is magic - magic is life-
Love as never loved before
Harmony to son and daughter, man and wife
