I haven't heard anything from it, but they are going to be touring soon. I really hope to catch them.

never got that dirty thought in my twisted little mind til you mentioned it, but yikes, lol! my husband is a metallica fan from the begining so of course he got this the minute it came out & i heard it repeatedly over the weekend! it's actually very, very good...goes back to more of a metal sound than commercial, if you will. they even used the old metallica logo & the insert has all the words & is pretty cool itself. my husband says he thinks of all the songs as a closure to the old metallica & a beginning to the new era, thus the symbolic lyrics & entire album look/theme. some great new songs, definitly worth checking out!

I like it a lot, my son bought it Friday and I downloaded it to my ipod, goes back to the original Metallica sound. Rick Rubin produced. Cool cd art too, nice treatment of the lyrics on the inside.

eh, i think its just okay. every song on the cd has a great groove to it and then every song on the cd has either a time signature change for the whole band, or lars starts playing off the beat and it just doesnt make sense to me. i think if the songs kept the good groove that they initially had then the album would be so much better. it still sounds like band that is TRYING to be heavy, not a band that is heavy.

Very happy with it, been listening to it all weekend. So much better than anything they've put out since the Black Album.

I agree with you on some of these points. I just hope that the time change in some of the songs means that it has depth and won't get left in a pile of "impulse choice" Cd's. This still could be the best album they have put out in a while.

I get what you mean but I'm pretty sure that all the time changes and such won't mean depth to me at all, it's too drastic.
You know, I actually really like Load and Reload. They are both very good albums but it's just a shame that Metallica made those albums. If those albums were released by any band not Metallica then they would be great albums and not crap because Metallica "sold out"

I don't think they necessarily "sold out", it was certainly a different sound. I didn't mind them at all, St. Anger wasn't good, but Load and ReLoad had some good stuff and some I really didn't care for all that much, Death Magnetic I like from beginning to end.

I never did hear St Anger. Just one or two tracks maybe and that was it.

Interesting comments. I'd like to hear some of it before I buy it. I never heard St Anger and I didn't have a problem with the "sell out" albums (post black album stuff), although I have been a fan from a far since the mid 80's.

But they have pissed me off in other ways and it starts to make me not respect the music.

The thing is that the comments suk0 made, actually make me curious to hear it, because I think I like the idea of the music changing and not staying into a groove. I think if Metallica got into a groove for even 3 minutes, I'd be bored by the end of the song.

One of my main issues with the last 3 albums is that James is trying "sing"

IMHO, James GROWLS better then he sings

Think "Puppets" and "Dyer's Eve"

Great point I think the new album is alot better than the last few but the vocals are weak. Decent album, still listening to it alot the past few days but... its no Kill em all or Ride the Lightning

I am very impressed with this album. St. Anger was horrible. Rick Rubin did his job. I bought it day of sale last Friday, and was spinning it in a club that night. The crowd loved it.

My impression is that there is nothing GREAT on this album. But it is pretty damn solid, especially considering they haven't put out a record worth a damn in decades.

I've heard that they were trying to sort of go way back to create the equivalent of a double album for Master of Puppets. You know, the "lost" record idea or whatever.

Overall, they did not go all the way back to Master or Lighting. There is nothing on it that is anywhere close to the epics of Master, Sanitarium,, Disposable Heroes, For Whom the Bell Tolls, etc.

But with that said, I think it DOES go back to the Justice groove. There is a lot of stuff on here that reminds me of Justice. It's more like the "lost" Justice record, before the Black album was ever created. Heavy complex tunes that leave you guessing and when it sounds like it is about to end, it heads off in a different direction. I like that.

It's not Kill 'em all, but it IS loud, heavy, fast and angry. In Metallica world - that is damn good!

Plus, there are a couple of really good tunes on here. I think "All Nightmare Long" is by far the BEST Metallica tune in many many years. It's got it all, even a growl or two Chuck! Well, maybe the growls might be in another tune, but there are a few in there now and then. But that tune alone I think is defintiely worth the price of the CD. I've listened to it a good 10 times already! And St. Anger - I listened to once, and literally threw away. I think that says it all!

Plus during the last tune - My Apocalypse - I head banged for the first time in years. For those that know how bad my headaches are, that is not something advisable to me any more!, but hey the music brought me there, and I caught myself screaming "WHIPLASH" in the middle of it. Now, it ain't that good, or that fast, but there is a certain section of it that really drove Whiplash into my mind. A lot like Dyers Eve as well.

The Judas Kiss is also pretty good. When I first listened to that one, it didn't grab me, but it's growing on me.

Suicide and Redemption is their first instrumental since the Justice Record I believe? unless I missed one on that worthless pile of crap they call "Reload". It's not as good as Orion or something along those lines, but it is defintiely solid. One of my favorite tunes on the disc actually. Another one that will definitely grow on me.

So did they put out a classic - NO! But did they put out a better record than they have in a LONG LONG LONG time - YES!!!!! It's solid, and there is a few tunes truly worthy of Metallica.

Plus, for the first time in years and years, it actually got me interested in listening to Master, Ride and Justice again without making me feel depressed.

I still remember having tickets to a gig at the Felt Forum (old MSG arena) that was postponed when Cliff passed away.

Even though he was gone, I think a lot of the Justice record fits right in with Cliff's attitude and personality.

And I think Cliff would have scoffed at alot of the garbage they have released since, who knows he may have even left the band if they had headed in that commercial direction when he was still around.

But there are pieces of this record here and there that I think Cliff would have been happy with. Nothing classic like I said, but there are flashes here and there of the old stuff
