NEW YEARS 2008-2009

For the 7th consecutive year, Gov't Mule will celebrate New Year's in New York City. Due to the on-going renovations at the Beacon Theatre, the band will be relocating, and for the first ever during its New Year's Run, play 4 shows and do so in 2 different venues. On December 27th & 28th, Gov't Mule will play acoustically in the magnificent Angel Orensanz Center on The Lower East Side and then on December 30th & 31st Gov't Mule will play the historic Hammerstein Ballroom. Keeping with tradition, the band will play 3 sets on New Year's Eve.

Much consideration was taken into choosing these venues. The band has always wanted to play Angel Orensanz, a former temple which is a visually and acoustically superb room, and jumped at doing so when the opportunity presented itself. The Hammerstein Ballroom, with its extremely accessible location as well as its mixture of seated balconies (both reserved and general admission) as well as its expansive open floor, will appeal to all of our fans needs. With its location in midtown Manhattan, and its close proximity to public transportation to New Jersey, as well as the Long Island Railroad and Metro North, it is one of the more convenient venues in New York City to reach.

Finally, we will be offering several VIP and travel packages which were designed to give our fans the best experience possible. Details on these packages as well as all on-sale dates, will be announced early next week.

This is great news!!!!! Acoustic Mule!!!!! Hammerstein for NYE, right across the street from the trains. This will piss off those who have to have orch tickets due to the standing GA situation. I am now a go for these shows as long as I can get a seat in one of the balconies. Standing on NYE for three sets for me would be impossible. I'm glad it's not the United Palace as everyone had been hinting.

WooooooooooHoooooooooo!!!!!!!

I guess there isn't going to be any particular theme to the run this year.

Wow! That Angel Orensanz Center looks to be an amazing place for an acoustic show! What a gorgeous venue! Anybody been to any shows here?

LOL. I can't wait for the acoustic mule.

Now the question is will Andy be in the band or not?

Hammerstein, should be fine since we will probably all be in the front together as usual. I'll just wear my thick soled boots. LOL.

Be aware the word is that if you smoke in the Hammerstein security takes pleasure in throwing you out.

Just letting you know the deal.

That depends on who you are seeing. I saw the Black Crowes there and the security were like stormtroopers busting everyone who lit up. When I saw Phil & Friends there everyone was smoking up like crazy and they didn't even try to bust anyone. The old double standard thing. I would expect the security to be more like they were for the Crowes. Doesn't bother me either way. I'll bring something with me, but only break it out if everyone else does.

The other negative I've experienced is they oversell the Hammerstein like crazy. That pretty much sucks and I am hopeful it won't happen for the Mule. I would hate to see the same situation like at the Beacon with the fire dept there watching everything.

As for smoking, I've heard they like to bust you. I too always wait to see what is up. But people should be aware of the possibility.

I don't think you will have anything to worry about Angela. The NYE show usually sells less than the other shows on the run. Being that NYE falls on a Wednsday this year and the Hammerstein having a higher crowd capacity, I don't think the floor will be as overcrowded as it can sometimes be. Of course I could be wrong and every Mule fan from around the country could come out of the woodworks. LOL!!! I do know what you mean about them over packing the place because I witnessed it when I saw Phil & Friends there. I was in the balcony, but the floor looked like a sardine can.

I am planning to go to both acoustic shows and the first Hammerstein show. How are the balcony seats? I am wondering if I should suck it up and go for the GA. WHen was the last time Mule played a full fledged acoustic show? I have the great Michigan Mule tracks from 1999 with Woody. Mule rocks!

It was great to hear that Mule will be in the city on New Years... However iduno about the whole GA thing as well. I'm sure it would be a good time, and my having never been to the Hammerstein makes it almost a lock; but who knows. I saw Sigur Ros at the Grand Ballroom in June, same center but smaller; lovely place indeed. I've yet to see a NYE show, but have caught a pre-NYE show the last two years... I'd like to make it three.
As for the acoustic shows, and them being on a weekend; I may very well try to get a little lady to one and a pal to another. Those look like they may be some very special gigs indeed.
