Do you think Dickey will play? Who else would you like to see, playing what songs?

Allman Brothers Plotting Star-Studded 40th
August 21, 2008 , 4:40 PM ET

Gary Graff, Detroit
The Allman Brothers Band is planning to use next year's engagement at New York's Beacon Theatre as the focal point for the group's 40th anniversary celebration.

"We're planning a big one, man, a real big one," Gregg Allman tells Billboard.com. "We're trying to get all the people we know that we've played with to come and sit in and play. We've got confirmation on a bunch of 'em now ... You're gonna ask me who that is, right?"

Well, yeah...

"No, no, I can't tell you all the secrets," Allman says with a laugh. "Just think about all the people we've played with. We're shooting to get all of them. Of course, people are on tour, but not usually so much in March as they would be, say, in August."

I'm pretty sure Butch posted here that it was NOT gonna happen.

As I recall he said Dickey was still touring and if you want to go see him, by all means do so.

I didn't see the Dickey comment. My bad. I like Dickey but I don't participate in the bring Dickey back or don't bring Dickey back discussions.

Tommy Talton, Randall Bramlett, Jack Pearson, Jimmy Herring.....to name a few

This is probably the 4th time this very same article with the same quotes were posted here. Don't people read anymore? Dickey will not be there and that's ok with me. The band is smokin hot right now and I am sure they don't need the distractions. Next year will be Epic!

Ok, at the risk of repeating myself for like the 100th time, just my feeling on this .. After 8 years from the split ... for what ever reasons...it is between them first and foremost...
Dickey hasn't really commented to much about the split and has kept his private and personal feelings within his own family and trusted friends.

My guess is that.... everything here is a business, I'm sure from a business point of view this has been discussed between the original members and also with Warren and Derek and Mark for their feed back.

It's all about the MONEY ... make no mistake , my friends MONEY is involved MONEY RULES .. everyone can get back in bed. It's money that helps to sooth wounds , also this is a historical moment in the ABB history .. How can they honor and represent the past 40 years without acknowledging a living and a very heavy contributor to ALL their success and not have him on stage ????. It would blatantly be suicidal for them as a Band to do that.. But it is at the end of the day for them sorta speak any way.

Yes, I feel the invitation has to be sent .... but here is the kicker.... I seriously doubt that Dickey Betts will accept. A written invitation isn't going to do it... A meeting needs to take place , all wounds need to be addressed, feeling of the past need to be discussed. Likes and dislikes have to all be on the table. <<THE MUSIC NEEDS TO BE PLAYED LOUD>>

At the end of the day.... Dickey will refuse the invite.... He may be alot of things ( as we all are , NO ONE IS PERFECT, they crucified the perfect person on a cross ) but he will stand by his convictions... who knows the turmoil that went on behind scenes with each member, sometimes you just can't DO IT anymore... and Butch has always stated how he felt... We had 2 choices ... thats it ... so we Let him go..... What a good brother.... I think he was the one who said I'll never play with Gregg again, also.. I think it was Dickey who wanted the Band back together in those days.. Well , I think Dickey is at home with Great Southern...and what a Band that is... Mike, Frankie, Pedro, Duane, Andy, and James.

I think it will be an exciting event for the 40th.. but without Dickey Betts , songwriter and composer of the ABB, well it would just be ... WRONG...

Just my same opinion ..sorry to go on and on about this.. but I have alot of passion about the band.. mostly from the past members.. I think todays band is good, but standing in the shadows of the "greatest" that was once there.. Not just Dickey Betts, Duane Allman , Berry Oakley, Lamar , Woody... etc.

So whatever is gonna be , will be... I would love to see Dickey Betts up there with the ABB, but not as much as I once did... As a fan I like knowing I'm gonna hear the songs that they made famous... I always loved the jam sessions, and frankly isn't it about what WE want .. after all it's our hard earned money we are spending to see this band. Are they listening to us ...at all....

I don't know. If the invitation was there, I would think
Mr Betts would jump at it.

He was trying to get back with the band a few years back.

Will it happen? More than likely not.

One other thing .. I think the Legendary Red Dog should also be part of this celebration... If not for Red Dog...who knows.... to bad we can't all ask Duane what he thinks about this.. But , I already know what Duane woulda said....

You can bring everyone one back... but without Dickey it is a sham....

I know this is a hotpoint subject for everyone... without Dickey & his leadership from Brothers & Sisters on... the band would have folded after Berry died...
