They're both nadir of the Allmans' catalog, so they have that in common, too

DITTO! It deserves to be played onstage, would be a killer concert song -- especially -- on -- Oct. 4...

Definitely bro -- actually am not familiar with HAHW -- some songs from the two Arista albums I know, not that one though
...meant to ask in the last post, how is your newborn doing? Not really "newborn" any more I realize...

This is also true with what I call "Dickey's Instrumental Trilogy:"

HIGH FALLS
PEGASUS
FROM THE MADNESS OF THE WEST

These songs are similar in style, sound & structure. Obviously Dickey liked to compose songs that were similar.

I don't believe you can say that he liked to compose songs that were similar....Perhaps it's just the limitations of his composition skills. Not bad, just the way he hears things. His trademark so to speak.

I'd add "Les Brers" to that list, it has a very similar structure to "High Falls". I'd dump "From the Madness of the West" from the list - that's pure muzak.

I like 'Hell and High Water'. It's the ABB's 'Truckin', the bands bio. Dickey and Gregg share verses. The chorus rocks: "We took time by the horns, cryin' out loud". I always thought it'd be a great show opener.

I've got to disagree, I think it's the most embarrassing song they've released. Sounds like Capt & Tenille to me, cheesey lyrics and all. To each their own, though.

"Pure muzak"????? Dude -- how do you find it so different from Pegasus/True Gravity etc etc.
Madness is one of Dickey's best works and the band's best performances -- maybe it will never be as popular as the others, but it's not that bad -- Butch sometimes mentions this cut as one he likes, particularly the drum solo

People love Pegasus but hate Madness -- love Just Ain't Easy but dismiss So Long -- love cuts like Crazy Love and Blind Love, but scoff at Hell and High Water -- it's amazing, and not a bad thing -- all good PCBob, howya been man
