Listening to the new Glen Campbell cd, Meet Glen Campbell (Great cd! The song Sing is amazing, http://www.glencampbellshow.com/), I was reminded of the greatest line I have ever heard in a song. The WalMart version of this cd has 5 bonus 2008 remixes of 5 of Glen's biggest hits. Witchita Lineman is one of the bonus cuts and has the line;

And I need you more than want you
and I want you for all time.

That line just about says it all for what the lady in your life means to you. Some may think it is corny, but it always brings a smile and a warm feeling in my heart.

I know there are many other favorites out there for everyone.

One of my new favorites

Who To Believe
by Gregg Allman

Woke up early this morning, something robbed me of my sleep

Reached for you but all I felt was a cold and empty sheet

Three nights on the road babe and I don't know where you been

Say you're working late could it be you got another man

Somebody said they saw you in a little club downtown

Your arms around a stranger, y'all was really goin' to town

You say they're just jealous, that you'll always be mine

But nightime has a thousand eyes, could they all be blind?

A couple of my favorites:

Did you exchange a walk-on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

Yes, I wish that for just one time you could stand inside my shoes.
You'd know what a drag it is to see you.

A recent addition from the work of Todd Snider:

I'm gonna make my last stand, and this time, I can't be bought.
Then again on the other hand, how much have you got?

And, when I feel like throwing an Ozzy-bashing Tipper Gore type for a loop:

Could it be you're afraid of what your friends might say if they knew you believed in God above?
They should realize before they criticize that God is the only way to love.

Best line I ever heard was John Nitzinger in Jelly Roll Blues. "Baby, if you put your brain on a razorblade it would look like a BB on a four lane highway. The girls not too sharp". It was on the Mar Y Sol pop festival album with ABB.

And then a Bruce Springsteen song, couple of lines:

"It ought to be easy ought to be simple enough
Man meets woman and they fall in love
But the house is haunted and the ride gets rough
And youve got to learn to live with what you cant rise above if you want to ride on down in through this tunnel of love"

Lefty's reminds me of a good one in a drinking song by the songwriter Robert Lee.

I got a four on the floor and a fifth on the seat!

Was a time when friends of mine said
Love was just a game
Find a girl and give her a whirl, then
Move on, all the same

But I was never happy
Always searching for this one
The dream to be my lover
And the dream she'd give me a son

I've searched this whole world over
'Bout a hundred times or more
Always looking for a girl I could love
Forever more

Dream lady, sexy Sadie, oh, I've dreamed
All my life of you
Dream lover, there's no other, oh girl
You could make all my dreams come true

CHORUS

Dream lover, oh, where are you?
If I could find you I'd love you true
Dream lover you're in my mind
Oh, lord, why does love have to be so unkind?

But I found a girl with loving
One to share my hopes and dreams
A friend to stand beside me
And the lover of my dreams

Lord I've always been a drifter, seems like I was always passing through
I never met anybody or anything, I just had to come back to you
But the minute I saw you, all my dreams were standing alive
And I would gladly give a hundred of my tomorrows if I could see you just one more time

If I could see you one more time there's just a few things on my mind
Just a few more things that I'd like to tell ya
If I could see you just one more time

As I travel down the highway, got to be the gypsy in my bones
But I want to see your smiling face, makes a man feel so alone
But you've already captured my soul, and slowly you're invading my mind And I would gladly give a hundred of my tomorrows if I could see you just one more time

If I could see you one more time there's just a few things on my mind
Just a few more things that I'd like to tell ya
If I could see you just one more time

If I could see you one more time
If I could see you one more time
If I could see you one mroe time.....

Since where going this way;

Well I'm goin' down to the river
I've got a canepole in my hand
I've got my redworms in a Maxwell house coffee can
I'm gonna sit under a shade tree on a riverbank where it's cool
I'm gonna close my eyes and dream and let the cork Bob away my blues

"If you wrote down all the girls name i know, and asked me to pick one out,
I don't believe there'd be one in the whole bunch, awww, I'd give a hoot about"

Some strong sentiments there.....

With the help of God and true friends, I come to realize
I still had two strong legs, and even wings to fly.
And oh I, ain't wastin time no more
cause time goes by like hurricanes, and faster things.

You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes, you just might find, you'll get what you need

And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.

Hey John,

Used to play that cassette tape all of the time, remember the Record Shop on Laurens Street next to the old SCN bank? Aiken's only record store in the 60s! Rode my bike down there and bought it after I saw Glen sing it on television 40 years ago.

Do I remember the shop on Laurens......

I knew everything in that store. I would spend every Friday afternoon in the store and go through all the albums. The "Old Man" as we called him would tell me where the new albums were, but I would go through all the bins anyway. Greatest collection of music on our town for sure.

I remember when he was going out of business . I didn't have money at the time to go there and buy and when I did, the store had been pretty much picked over....

Man, what a great music store......

Sadly, the man that owned died many years ago. He lived about two blocks from me....
