This hasn't been the best of times for me lately. I have lost two close friends. One died from a heart attack about a month ago. I spoke to him on the phone a couple weeks prior to his death and was telling him about my moving. He was happy for me and that day just happened to be his birthday, so I wished him a happy birthday and told him he might be seeing me soon.
He was one of those people who you always seen smiling. I miss him like a brother.
This morning I get an email that another close friend of mine died in a fire. I can't find out the details, but he moved to Houston, Texas and was a mailman for the past 20 years or so. We both saw the ABB together back in 73, twice as a matter of fact, the second time we saw them we stayed at his brother's pad up on Ohio State campus.
I'm not seeking sympathy, but rather saying that whenever you are close to somebody who is far away from you, it's not a bad thing to let this person know you care for them, even if it's not the manly thing to do. You'll never know when it'll be the last time you see or speak to them.

Sorry for your losses.

You are correct. Never let an opportunity slip to let someone you care about know.

Steve, I know what you mean. I'm sorry to hear about your friends passing on. We're at the age....where it seems to happen more and more. It's the cycle of life.

I'm not afraid to tell my buddies that I love them. In person, I'm more likely to demonstrate it by an embrace. That's a biker tradition...greet each other with a manly hug and and pat on the back. For my friends who are at a distance, I just tell them... "I love you, man!"

I tell my family I love them DAILY. Many of you are like family to me. I love y'all. You know who you are.

It's tough to lose friends...we always think of growing old together, having those that are our age with us forever, and when we don't, it's a bigger jolt than losing an older relative. I'm sorry for your loss brother, one of my best friends and college roomate died 10 years ago in his early 30s. It was crushing and I still think of him often. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

So very, very sorry, Skypup.

Another reminder to enjoy each other when we have the chance, put away drivel that doesn't amount to squat.

OH Steve.. so sorry to hear about your personal friends (2) in their unexpected passing ..so soon in life.
No, we never know what life has in store for us and when the end will come. That is why I love the song Seven Turns...

Lets keep that thought in our heads and send our prayers to your friends and to you Steve to have inner strength at these most difficult times in your life...

Peace and Love to you

Seven turns on the Highway
Seven rivers to cross
Sometimes you feel like you could fly away
Sometimes you get lost
Sometimes in the dark of night
You see a cross road sign
One way in the morning light
You gotta make up your mind

Somebodys calling your name
Somebodys waiting for you
Love is all that remains the same
That's what its all coming to.

Running wild out on the Road
Just like a leaf on the wind
How in the world could you ever know
We'd ever meet again?

Seven turns on the Highway
Seven rivers to cross
Sometimes you feel like you could fly away
Sometimes you get lost

Somebodys calling your name
Somebodys waiting for you
Love is all that remains the same
That's what its all coming to.

Somebody's calling your name
Somebody's waiting for you
Somebody's calling your name
That's what its all coming to.

Somebody's calling your name
Somebody's waiting for you
Somebody's calling your name
That's what its all coming to.

Thanks for the ear. I really appreciate it and I guess that is why I keep coming back here, no better place on earth in my opinion. I am still trying to get over this and I was sent a link from my buddy back home. It is from a Houston tv station. They have his age wrong, he was 53.

Sorry for your losses, skypup. Comforting thoughts being sent your way. Seems the older we get, the more common these occurances become. I try to let my family and friends know frequently how much they mean to me through both words and actions because time is a crafty devil.

I hear ya. Just went to the funeral of my good friend's mom on Friday. She was great, almost like a second mom, always loved having the kids around and was always doling out mounds of food for us and trying to keep us out of trouble, a totally unselfish woman. She passed away from pancreatic cancer last Sunday, battled for 22 months. I hadn't seen her in about 15 years as they had moved to Florida, so it brought back so many childhood memories for me.

I couldnt' help but blast Back Where It All Begins at myself after the funeral, seemed appropriate at the time.
