...did this summer fly by like none other in the past? I can't believe already Labor Day is coming to a close along with the unofficial end to summer. Seems like it was just Memorial Day weekend, a blink and it was the 4th, the rest of July not too bad but August came and went like it never existed! I know what they say (whoever "they" are) about the older you get the more quickly time goes by, but this was ridiculous! Anyone else feel the same way?

Same feeling here Hank. And, I do believe they pass a lot quicker now than they used to.

July took three months to get through.

August was over in a week.

Not just you hankpipes, it seemed like we hardly had a summer at all. Here in Central NY it rained so much in June/July and part of August that I think the last time we actually used the deck was in mid June. I think I put about 250 miles on the summer car and now the true marker of the end of summer in Central NY, the last day of the State Fair, is over as I type this.

I love Fall, but 2008 has flown.

I hear you peachstatedawg....when I was in grade school it seemed like summer vacation was a year long...not having a care in the world might have had something to do with it.

speaking of time flying, what happened to this decade?

hell, it's almost over.

which is fine in a way.

a decade with no name.

really, what the hell do you call it?

i remember the 60's, 70's

but, what a bummer for the kids growing up today, when they look back...

"remember the 00's?"

"greatest hits of the double ot's."

Each day seemed faster than the previous one. Too much to do this summer. Isn't it supposed to be about relaxing? Tell my wife, please.

i think I may need 365 days of summer like our Yankweed friends.

Actually, I think that is quite sad ... I love the season changes ... the vibrant colours of Autumn ... a walk in the hills on a crisp Winters day ... and the dewy freshness of a Spring morning

Last summer was like that for me. That's probably because I had a new pair of skis I was dying to get on.

I think the summer flew by. I hate the thought of winter approaching. Here in the Northeast it was cool and rainy most of the summer, (at least in my neck of the woods). I need to get my a$$ off the couch, get outside, and enjoy what little summer remains.

Life is like an odometer on an old car. The miles and years just click off one after the other.

My youngest child is a HS senior this year. Next year, we'll be sending her off to college.

In less than 2 1/2 years, I'll hit the big 5-0. My wife turns 50 in November.

The days seem to pass by like white lines on a highway going 70MPH.

It beats the alternative.

Yep.... flew by , every year alittle faster.

Liked your quote BDOB... white lines on the highway... wasn't that a Joni Mitchell song... White lines on the Freeway, not sure if that was the name of it... Oh wait .. the name is Coyote... but there is a line in it... White Lines on the Freeway... anyway, liked it... it's whats happening

Actually, there is a mathematical reason for this feeling.

As we get older, each year becomes a smaller fraction of our life.
When we're 10, one year equals 1/10th of our life.
At 50, one year = 1/50th and so on....

"Life may be sweeter for this, I don't know
See how it feels in the end"

The "end" keeps comin' faster and faster!

actually, true up until your 50...

then you start remembering less of past years, thus each preceding year becomes a larger fraction.

thus, the explanation for my second childhood.

"where's my baba?"

WONDER WHY WE EVER GO HOME
Jimmy Buffett

Years grow shorter, not longer,
the more you've been on your own.
Feelin's for movin' grow stronger'
so you wonder why you ever go home,
wonder why you ever go home.

People are movin' so quickly.
Humor's in need of repair.
Same occupations and same obligations;
they've really got nothing to share,
like drivin' around with no spare.

River gets deeper not shallow,
the further you move down the stream.
Wonderin'if I can keep her as I
race to keep up with my dreams.
How they shine and glitter and gleam.

Years grow shorter, not longer,
the more you've been on your own.
Feelin's for movin' grow stronger'
so you wonder why you ever go home,
wonder why you ever go home.

well, as you know what our boys say..."'Cuz time goes by like hurricanes... and faster things...." that's why you can't waste time.

as a child & even through teens, time sure did seem endless...now kids grow up before your eyes & you just wonder where the hell all the time has gone....

summer flew by quick here too...just wish we had longer warm weather months as winter in Buffalo will be here soon enough....fortunately all 4 of our seasons are awesome here & autumn is beautiful. shall i mention that for those of us who celebrate Christmas, that there are only 112 shopping days left?!

i'm with ya'll on the decade thing too, cuz it seems like all the hype was just about the millenium & now we are approaching 2009, yikes!

take it in strides though cuz it's better than the alternative like BDOB said!
