Yesterday I had to put down Eddie. He was suffering from canine Lymphoma and finally we had to pull the trigger. I never had to do that before and it was rough but the vet was great and very reassuring. As I was driving home, I felt a big sense of relief and calmness. I listened to Gregg's "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" and I thought about a lot of good things.

Eddie was a great dog and great companion. He loved to run, jump (my neighbor thought he used a pogo stick), howl and walk. His favorite spot in the house was our bed, usually my side (dogs can be a useful form of birth control!). When he saw other dogs, he always had to be The Man (my arms always got longer after walks). He was very protective and would have taken a bullet for me and my family. He wasn't too thrilled when Strat Jr. started walking but he loved to sleep in Jr.'s room when he was taking a nap. One of his favorite treats was licking cookie dough off the beater.

When it's our time to move on, I hope we all end up where our dogs go. Then we'll know we did things right.

Here's to ya Eddie! I'm sure you and Brandy are barking it up right now. Afterwards, find a comfy place and have a nap! Go get 'em buddy!

Sorry to hear that, and am glad he is no longer in pain.

I dread the day I have to do that to my dog, but I am enjoying
every minute I can with her in the interim.

Sorry to hear about Eddie.

That was one of the hardest thing I had to do when I had to put Katie down. Now we have Derri and I sure do love her dearly.

Sorry to hear about Eddie my friend.

I worry about my Chihuahua(Peanut) already and she is only 5. They will have to put me in the looney bin if something happens to her. I can't stand to even think about it. She's my best friend.

Here's to Eddie, Running in the fields of doggie Heaven.

Sorry to hear that you had to put Eddie down. Earlier this month I put down my 16 year old cat, Sabrina, and it was very difficult. Don't know what I going to do when Thor, my 10 year old Siberian ever get's to that point, as he's really "my buddy", but one thing is for certain, I'll never let him suffer. Our "critters" bring so much to our lives, and ask for very little in return. Sounds like your Eddie was of those great dogs. My condolences go out to you and all those who loved Eddie.

You'll see him again, when Judgement Day happens, all the dead, including the animals will be resurrected and perfected. Till then, he's warm, peaceful and protected.

So sorry for your loss. RIP Eddie, I hope you are running and jumping with my Deidre who took the journey almost three years ago.

I am so sorry for you loss. I had to put down a great pet named Zack, which looked just like Eddie. One of the toughest days of my life. But I know Eddie and Zack are no longer suffering. I now have a couple of hounds, Trucks and Harvey, they are a mess. Especially when a thunderstorm is approaching. Trucks goes absolutely nuts. He got out of the backyard when Fay was raining through and about got hit by a car. It was very close too. Its one time he listened to me when I yelled at him. I wish I could break him of his fear of storms, cause I know he will get hurt someday. I worry everyday about him. Pets will do that to you.

Steve, I am so sorry about your loss and know exactly how you are feeling.

I never thought I would feel the way I did about my pets until they died. I always said I'd just toss them into the kudzu. But my heart knew better. I miss my Boo every day, she gave love everyday and I walked past it most days not caring.

Just know that you loved once and it was to one of God's creatures. The hole of loss will never close, but it was worth it knowing your pet.

Gregg thought so much of his pet that he has a tat of it.

Love ya Steve. Stay cool and call me if you need. It is a great loss...

Trucks and Harvey... what great names! They sound like quite the pair. Just like Eddie and Jake! (Jake is kind of sad right now. I'll make sure he gets plenty of walks.)

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts and wishes. When I got up this morning, I felt okay about everything. Turns out, I've had my moments. It's hard to believe how quiet the house is.

My condolences too to those who've lost a pet. It's what we sign up for but it's worth it. Peace, health, and happiness to all!

My American Bulldog Deidre used to go to the corner of the room and start trying with all she had to dig through the carpet. First sign of lightning and thunder and it would be a dig fest for hours. Would drive my mother crazy.

Sorry to hear about, Eddie, Stratdal. Sounds like you brought each other much joy in life and I hope he's chasing squirrels and has an unlimited supply of chewy toys and bones where he's at now. Love the pic of the 'kids' licking the beaters! Hope you and Jake and your family find comfort in the good Eddie memories. I know I'll probably be bonkers one day when my Lola leaves but it sure is great having such unconditional love in the meantime!

Sorry to hear about Eddie, like others here been down the same road a few times and it never gets easier...but big props to you for not procrastinating when the time came. I'm always proud to say the dogs don't ever suffer needlessly for selfishness on my part.
