Got a text message from Susea who ran in Andy at JFK on her way to Red Rocks. I asked her if she talked to the rumor of Andy leaving the Mule. He stated "I cannot elaborate on that right now, but you will know soon enough!"

Rob Baracco is filling in for the Fall tour according to the eMule folks who just heard Stef announce it on Sirius!

Stef said to stay tuned to the official Web page for an announcement.

GOVíT MULE WELCOMES NEW BASS PLAYER
New Bassist Jorgen Carlsson To Debut on Fall Tour
Balancing evocative songs and expressive improvisation, Govít Mule is a band rooted in both the personal and musical chemistry between its members. ďItís not one of those groups that can make a change overnight,Ē explains founding guitarist/vocalist Warren Haynes. It is only after six months of rehearsing, jamming, and hanging out with bassist Jorgen Carlsson that he has been added to the band as their new permanent bass player, replacing Andy Hess, who joined in 2003.

The above is posted on mule.net along with a new band photo.

With Hess leaving to pursue other opportunities, Haynes sees the addition of Jorgen as connecting the past and future of Govít Mule: ďHaving worked with Jorgen over the last several months, we are very excited to explore some new directions while at the same time going back a little closer to our roots.Ē

Thats just pathetic Warren. To sell a fall tour and then have Stef blab this on Sirius and then say this has been going on 6 months is just incredibly lame. I am totally disappointed in Warren. Oh well, I'll save thousands of dollars a year now.

Mike, now don't do anything rash... I can understand your view but in the end, everything happens for a reason whether we like it or not. I've been there since before the Birth of the Mule and I'll continue to do so thru any and all transitions.

We all have our opinions on how things are handled but I wouldn't throw in the towel just yet if ever... Come to Burlington and lets see for ourselves... what do ya say!! I'll be there.

I think this is the dude, though I know NOTHING about him.

Warren has great musical taste, I'll give it a few tries before I freak out...

I did dig Andy's bass though...

I don't really know who to be mad at, but I think this sucks. I thought that Andy did a commendable job in an almost no-win situation. He didn't try to copy Woody, and I respect the hell out of that. This is just not sitting well with me at all.

I guess we'll have to wait to hear what the real story is. Maybe Andy didn't feel comfortable in the band. Who knows. Although I haven't heard the new bassist, I doubt think we'll look back on this as a good day for mule fans.

That came off as a bit too negative. I'm still on board with anything the Mule chooses to do.

I'm just in a bit of a shock because I just got a call from my friend about this and it is the same friend that called me when Woody died. I'll give this guy the same chance I gave Andy, but he's going to have to really step up to the plate.

It's proably because it was sneaky the way it was handled but that's up to them to the way they handle it. Rumer had started months ago about Andy leaving and I asked him myself when I was getting on the same plane as him headed to Denver. He could not elaborate and quite frankly, it isn't our business, really.

It is what it is...

Get behind the MULE!!!

Warren knows musical talent more than anyone, so I'm sure Jorgen is gonna fit in just fine. When he describes him as a cross between Woody and Andy, that sounds pretty damn intriguing.

I have no problem with how the band handled this. They waited to announce the change because they wanted to be sure they had their man. Took their time to make sure they got it right while starting to build some chemistry.

I don't know why anyone would be mad about this. If Andy wanted to leave, that is his business. I wish Andy nothing but the best and thank him for five awesome years. I have enjoyed his playing imencly.

You New Englanders are lucky to be getting the very first look at the Re-Rebirth of the Mule. I look forward to hearing your first impressions.

Sue, I am sure Warren can choose a bass player and musically it will be fine. But I have been following Warren since the Dickey Betts band and I will admit I hold him to a higher standard than most artists I follow. I always believed Warren was a cut above when it comes to integrity and the handling of this situation has left an extremely bad taste in my mouth. I will not spend money on a tour that to me was sold under false pretenses. Because my friend is the manager of the Fur Peace Ranch I'll still go ahead and see the Warren solo show this weekend there, but after that it will probably be a while before I see he or Mule again. I have no doubt it will be fine for all those who will continue on with their passion for Warren and Mule.

What exactly is your problem with Warren about the change??? The only one you are gonna punish by not going is yourself. Were you just going to see Andy play or were you going to a Gov't Mule show??? Would you rather them hang it up???

I saw Mule with a dozen or so different bass players during the Deep End era and they were great with each one. I'm sure they are gonna still be great with Jorgen. Warren ain't gonna welcome some hack into Gov't Mule after all the hard work building it up.

I have to admit that it is weird to log on to Mule.net and see the picture of the new lineup pop up across the top of the page.

For me personally the music is about Warren so I don't care specifically about who is in or not in the band as long as they play well and can jam.

I care about how the information was filtered out. Certainly Warren has a right to let info out as he sees fit. He showed exactly how he sees it fit to let the fan base know about a significant change and I found it disrespectful, both to the average fan and to Andy.

I think that it shows a lack of respect towards people's feelings about this. People could have been given a chance to tell Andy that they appreciated his tenure in the band directly to his face instead of on internet boards that Andy does not read.
