In case you missed it Brother Butch stopped by the guestbook.

quote:

I want to make a statement: The Allman Brothers Band reached a point several years ago where we had two options to choose from. 1) Split up!! 2) Try and make a go of it without Dickey (and, we truly weren't sure if this was possible). These were the ONLY options on the table. As much as we hated option two, option one was worse. This is reality. What has happened since is reality. What everyone thinks or wishes was reality is not. There is no perfection in this life. We are always faced with hard choices and our lives are formed by which direction we choose. No matter what Red Dog says, I did not lead the way to what happened. I may have been the most outspoken but that is my nature. I talk too much. Gregg and Jaimoe tend to keep their opinions to themselves much more than I. Bottom line is what I stated above. We have had a wonderful time playing the music that we have played since we had to make that choice. Many people have had a few hours of joy because we made that choice. As much as I wish that we were never forced to make that choice that just isn't reality. WE HAD NO CHOICE!! That is a fact. Please try and understand what I just said and let's get on with life based on reality and stop fantisying about the "what if's".

quote:
Just read some more posts. Our deal with Ratdog is they get to play two hours. This only leaves us two hours. We're not cutting our show to two hours becasue we want to. I challenge any of you to show me one concert on this tour with a twenty minute drum "solo" (for all of you music critics out there a solo is one person. There has never been a drum "solo" in the band's history). We know that we only have two hours to play and we have cut the drum ensemble to 5-7 minutes, max. Last two shows we finished playin and Gregg, Warren and Derek were all still backstage. Bad feeling when you're sitting there having said all you wanted to say and ya just gotta keep banging until the band shows up. Anyway we do still get a strong reaction when we play these things so I guess somebody likes em. Sorry if you don't. Go get a beer or pee or something.

It's about F**kin' time

Thanks very much BUTCH (if you see this) for finally clearing the air (hopefully once and for all about certain issues beaten to DEATH)

Now that this is settled - let's move on.

I appreciate that the man cares enough to read our comments and respond to them. That's a stand up guy right there who has earned even more of my respect. Thanks for stopping in Butch.

It's in reference to Red Dog throwing somewhat tired accusations at Butch/ABB in the GB.

i like the fact that butch shoots straight from the hip.

if you read this butch, the overwhelming majority of us have immensely enjoyed not only this current tour, but the past 8 years of the band sans Dickey. of course, it's not perfect. but the band has brought me, my friends, my family and the rest of the music community something wonderful to listen and party to. i hope you guys tour for another 8 years!

don't forget those who love you! you can comment of all the love too!

I'm as big a fan of DB as anybody, perhaps even enjoy his band more than the ABB at this point, but I really think that the fact that Butch still feels like he has to address this topic 8 years later is troubling. Butch, Jai and Gregg made a decision, we as fans can either enjoy the new Allmans, or hit the bricks. That's our decision to make, it's that simple. Since the split up happened it sure hasn't ever looked like the 3 mentioned above miss the 4th original member. So there you go, reality, whether you like it or not.

Also, the 2 hour show, drum trio thing sounds like it was a business decision, not a music decision. Perhaps they can't get Bob and the Rats to start at 6 or 6:30 so they can do the 2-1/2 hour ABB show we saw all thru the 90's and early 2000's. Take at look at the shows as recently as last year when they were playing the Beacon, if you wanna see what the guys are still capable of. Evidently, the band and management feel like they need a big second act/co-headliner to fill the large sheds in the year 2008. I, if anybody would give a hoot what I think, like having all the different bands out there that are part of the ABB "family".

I've got a beef. A 5-7 minute Jabuma is too short! I was hoping for 20 minutes.

Thank you Butch! I truly got the whole deal from the get go, and I am glad to see you back here. In a way, you and Red Dog, have always been the ones to speak out. I am sure that deep down, he understands too. I think he just doesn't like that had to be done. Nobody did, I am sure. However, I have seen things lately that lead me to believe that the right thing was done! Thank you!

Good points, PF8....
I've pretty much felt compelled to stand aside during the exchanges. I wasn't there, I don't know what went on, what it was like.

The whole situation was and is stressful on both men--and others. And it's really not my place to intervene. I need to stand to the side, observe and listen respectfully.

Both these gentlemen have stuff going on inside them, obviously. And they've both revealed some raw nerves. And there may never be healing. Hopefully, the airing here will be theraputic. Both guys are getting their thoughts out--for the other to see, and for the fans. I hope that it ends up being a positive thing for them. I wish both the best.
I wish the best for all involved.
