Agree one of the best tunes the ABB have written in past few decades. Studio version is so good. The coda with Derek soloing over the elctric piano, followed by the weave/in/out of Derek & Warren is pure bliss to me. Give me two doses of it in Atlanta please.

Love "High Cost" as well and is actually one of my faves to hear live. It's a beautiful tune and love the outro when Derek let's loose and then Warren joins him in that mini-harmony.

Holt, I don't think its "High Cost" you are referring to but "Old Friend" I believe.

...and remember, regardless of how that song originated, The ABB did compose and arranged the song to their liking and to their strengths and stylistic approach. The lyrics are tailor made for Gregory to sing.

Chris Anderson and Warren wrote Old Friend, I have Chris's cd with the tune on it. Sounds better than the ABB version.

I really love this song too. Its one of the songs that the current lineup does that i really want to see them do but havent yet. I will be in Clarkson tomorrow and they havent played this song yet this tour so there is a chance.

Thank you all for your thoughts - I believe it is theirs and certainly in line thematically with some personal issues they have tackled

Love the album version of that song - perhaps the only ABB song that can't be improved upon live.

According to allmusic.com the songwriting credits go to "Allman, Anders, Burgin, and Haynes".

Great song, hope to hear it in Atlanta.

Sure sounds like Gregg wrote the lyrics to me................very autobiographical. But then, I guess the lyrics could have written by anyone with his heavy drug background.

Holt, why so quick to prove everyone wrong? Just wondering. I don't think that it is all that important is it? Maybe I am wrong. I am ok with it if I am. With all due respect! Peace bro!

One of the best songs in their entire catalog, IMO. LOVE that outro!

OK, so Gregg & Warren only co-wrote the song. Maybe I should say High Cost is one of the best songs recorded by the ABB in the last couple decades.

Don't love it....don't need to hear it.

Am I the only one who feels this way?

I'm with you Dancing, it's not a terrible song by any means, but there's many others I'd rather hear.

I love the outro jam.... but the lyrics are way too "Skynyrd-ish" for my taste, so you're not the only one

IMO, current ABB sets would be dramatically improved with regular rotation of more songs like this from the last studio album...Desdemona, Firing Line, High Cost, Old Friend, Old Before My Time...they work with older material and stand up on their own...How 'bout it boys!?!?!?
