I sense there's some disappointment that the shows are only 2 hours this year and avg 10 songs because of Ratdog and Phil cobills. Especially here in the northeast where we're getting Ratdog instead of Phil. Some have suggested that the ABB without a new album need a co bill to fill the big sheds and that they can earn more this way, and that since the run is short this year, they need to make big bucks in the summer to offset.

So, would you be willing to pay double the ticket price to see them solo, at a smaller venue. I'm guessing that it would take double to offset the fewer number sold, but, they wouldn't have to split it either. So instead of 10,000 at shed tonight, we could have 5,000 at a smaller joint not far from here. Would you pay double for an extra hour ABB and give up Ratdog?

I would. Only get to see them twice a year, so I want all I can get.

Greg

Depends on the venue, or, er, smaller shed.

Could have done without Ratdog. Great Woods was empty but a few vagrants. He was late by a 1/2 hour too which explains why 44 blues was cut from the set.

Less drums and more songs in place of the drums as several others on here have suggested. I don't dislike the ABB drum segments, but when they aren't doing an evening with(with more time) and are doing co-bills(with less time), then the balance should tilt to more songs and less drums.

I agree Holt! I'm perfectly ok with Ratdog, Phil, or just about anyone but the DBT or Skynyrd

I'm guessing Hartford will be empty tonight too, with it being a weekday and ABB not on until 10:30, many will work until 5 and not rush to see Ratdog, spending the time with a cold one etc outside.

I think it would be stupid to pay more for an Evening With:

1) What you pay for now (whether you like it or not) is a set by two bands.

2) paying MORE for 2 sets (regardless of whether it is two sets by one band or one set each by two different bands) is makes no sense. Its two sets of music.

What they should do is drop the JABUMA segment to give the drummers a rest so they can play more songs..

I think that they just need an opener - not a co-bill. the concerts with moe. were perfect. they filled the venues, brought in a great new young crowd, and played from 7 - 8:30. 8:30 - 9 was the equipment change. the bros then played from 9 - 11:30. 2.5 hours is not bad for the bros. during the summer.

the opener is not paid as much as a co-bill. and i'll bet that moe. brought in more fans than rat dog.

phil and friends, i would think, is different. they have a better history of crowd attendance and a bigger following than rat dog.

I would pay more for An Evening With even if it was in someone's garage.

Well, I pay more for a Beacon show than I did for Jones Beach, so I guess I would. I definitely would have preferred no Ratdog and a longer ABB set, I hate the co-bill. More Allman Brothers is always better. If Ratdog meant that "44 Blues" was cut I would probably riot or refuse to leave until Bob Weir apologized.

You mean like paying $80-100 to see them at the Beacon? Or at Chastain in October?

I don't mean to be a smartass, but this is already in effect. People already do pay more to see the band in an "Evening With" setting, and they have been doing so for years.

There is no reason the band should just do one or the other. I enjoy both experiences.

I love seeing the band in a big outdoor setting, and I'm looking forward to the shows with Phil in the Fall. Even so, there is nothing like seeing the band at the Fox

It's all good!

I don't mind the double bill in the summer and I already pay and have paid more for 'An Evening With' at all of the Beacon runs over the last 16 years.

No kidding. Haven't we always paid double or more for the "Evening With" sets? I like both experiences too. Nothing like a great 3+ hour/2-sets concert at a nice theater. But I also love being on the lawn in the summer with a lot of friends watching and listening to the best live music out there. I would prefer them having openers as opposed to co-billings during the shed runs, so they can play closer to 3 hours, but I can see the need for co-bills too the way concert attendance has dropped off the past several years.

I wouldn't pay double to see "An Evening With..." but I'd just as soon see them alone....but I have to say, I wish I could have caught them with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers when they toured together. THAT would have been a cool show to see.

Sure, I'd pay more. I would much rather have "An Evening With..." anyday. I'd also much rather have smaller venues like the Beacon. But don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining...just stating my opinion. If I were King every show would be just the Brothers and they'd all be in my backyard.

I've been doing the Raleigh-Charlotte shows for a few years but with this double bill this year and with Atlanta the next weekend I'm skiipping out on Raleigh. It's hard for me to justify the cost of the tickets, accomedations, gas, taking off from work, etc. to do this even though I like Phil & Friends. I just feel fortunate Atlanta and 2 "Evenings with" are coming up.

It isn't all good when I'm being forced to pay to see Ratdog. I'd rather give the Brothers that money, move the show from a shed to theatre and have another hour or so of music I like. If the ABB can't fill an outdoor venue solo, then put them inside and charge more.

The point is not whether they ever do "evening withs" because, duh, they do them all the time. The point is they're not doing them much in the Summer any more and I'd gladly pay more if they did.
