What a shame. In my one and only DMB show at Piedmont Park, I was impressed with his talent. I had no idea the accident was this serious.

Really sad news. We'll be seeing the Berkeley Greek shows, that end the tour and was looking forward to LeRoi returning. A great loss of someone who was a vital part of defining an original niche and sound. Maybe not a lot of DMB fans here, but this is a huge loss to the music world. RIP LeRoi.

This is really sad about LeRoi Moore - only 46 years old. Prayers to the Moore family, DMB, friends and fans.

Reports over on phishhook say it had something to do w/ the flight out west, complicating his existing health problems.

Very sad. I've never been more than a casual DMB fan but my sister tells great stories about seeing them in DC area clubs before they hit big.

LeRoi will be missed. He was an impressive musician. My wife and I were really into DMB in the 90's and to see them live was truly an experience. Thoughts go out to LeRoi's family, friends, DMB, and DMB fans. RIP

That's very sad. I was a huge DMB fan (still am) since 94. I've been to over 10 shows, my first at Greatwoods in 95. So there's alot to think about. I couldn't help but think of Mikey. It's that kind of thing and that kind of sad. DMB is performing right now. That's tough like WSP was. DMB was just coming off of a ABB tour. And I just saw them for the first time and was thinking about when I was DMB there in 95. Almost feels like he was just here. I feel like I kind of knew him a little. We're both quiet guys, so I'm that kind of sad. He will be missed and the DMB won't be the same without him. Farewell, bro. See you in the big open someday.

I know a ton of musicians from Charlottesville, where the Dave Matthews Band is based and still live and have land, many of whom were in bands with members of the DMB back in the day before they hit. What they tell me is that Dave and the guys have given back to the community in a huge way, from parks and buildings to helping out the local scene. Bummer on Leroi's death, and from an ATV accident on his Charlottesville farm to boot. Even if the DMB is not your cup of tea, all of them are highly talented musicians and that definitely goes for Leroi Moore.

Dave Matthews Band sax player LeRoi Moore dies
By RAQUEL MARIA DILLON 59 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES (AP) Dave Matthews Band saxophone player LeRoi Moore, one of the group's founding members and a key part of its eclectic jazz-infused sound, died Tuesday from sudden complications stemming from injuries he sustained in an all-terrain vehicle accident in June. He was 46.

Moore died at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, according to a statement released on the band's Web site. The statement did not specify what led to his death.

Moore was initially hospitalized in late June after the accident on his farm outside Charlottesville, Va. He was later discharged and had recently returned to his Los Angeles home to begin a physical rehabilitation program when complications forced him back to the hospital on July 17, the band said.

Galina Shinder, a nursing supervisor at Hollywood Presbyterian, said the hospital could not release any details.

Ambrosia Healy, the band's publicist, said the band's show Tuesday night in Los Angeles was not canceled. Saxophonist Jeff Coffin, who played with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, had been sitting in for Moore during the band's summer tour.

Moore, who liked to wear his trademark dark sunglasses at the bands' live concerts, had classical training but said jazz was his main musical influence, according to a biography on the band's Web site.

"But at this stage I don't really consider myself a jazz musician," Moore said in the biography. Playing with the Dave Matthews Band was "almost better than a jazz gig," he said. "I have plenty of space to improvise, to try new ideas."

Lead singer Dave Matthews credited Moore with arranging many of his songs, which combine Cajun fiddle-playing, African-influenced rhythms and Matthews' playful but haunting voice.

The band formed in 1991 in Charlottesville, Va., when Matthews was working as a bartender. He gave a demo tape of his songs to Moore, who liked what he heard and recruited his friend and fellow jazzman Carter Beauford to play drums, and other musicians.

The group broke out of the local music scene with the album "Under the Table and Dreaming." The band won a Grammy Award in 1997 for its hit song "So Much to Say" off its second album "Crash." Other hits include "What Would You Say," "Crash Into Me" and "Satellite."

Dave Matthews Pays Tribute to Band Member
By Mary Margaret

The show went on for the Dave Matthews Band on Tuesday night, with Matthews paying tribute from the stage to saxophonist LeRoi Moore, who died earlier in the day.

"We all had some bad news today," Matthews told the sell-out crowd at the Staples Center in Los Angeles after the first song. "Our good friend LeRoi Moore passed on and gave his ghost up today and we will miss him forever."

Fans shouted Moore's name in tribute as the band resumed playing. Two songs later, Matthews once again made reference to Moore, saying: "It's easier to leave than be left."

Moore, a founding member of the band, died Tuesday afternoon of complications from an all-terrain vehicle accident in June, the band's rep announced.

Moore, who had recently returned to his house in L.A. to begin a physical rehabilitation program, died at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, according to the rep.

Wow. This is just so sad. I saw DMB for the first time, about 1 week before his accident. I'll cherish the memories of that show even more now.

Now I wish I would have stayed for DMB when they played Piedmont Park with ABB last September. Man, what a shame. Dude was my age.

R.I.P. LeRoi.

Very sad to hear the news on LeRoi. He was one hell of a musician and from what I understand, a very sweet guy. I have always felt the DMB, man for man, is one of the most talented and unique bands out there today and LeRoi was a huge part of that bands sound. I am glad I got to see them when they still played small places. He will be missed very much.

Sorry to hear of LeRoi Moore passing. Definely a "first class" musician who added so much to the sound of the DMB.
