I prefer V8 to tomato juice -- it gives a nice tang to the cocktail. Also I once read that the -original- Bloody Mary recipe used gin instead of vodka and decided to give it a try -- I liked it and have used gin ever since. [That same original recipe also called for a raw egg, but you have to draw the line somewhere ... ]

Otherwise your ingredients are perfect. I do, however, like to add a couple of grinds of fresh black pepper and just a dash of tobasco. Now THAT'S yummy!

Question: Do you dress it with a wedge of lime or with a celery stick? And what's your thought on salting the rim?

The ONLY way to make a good bloody mary - and that's a fact!

Some seasoning salt (like Lawry's or celery salt) on the rim is good and I like to use a dill pickle spear and an olive to dress mine (or celery). Agree on the dash of Tabasco (or other Louisianna hot sauce) and black pepper. Also - RedEye makes the best bloody mary mix I've ever had (one version has the horseradish in it already ) and the original version is excellent in cooking (like with chili, gazpacho and other soups, creole dishes)

Gosh, I can't believe I left out the tabasco. Maybe I should have made the post before I had a few, huh? Yes, I use a celery stick and lime wedge for sure, sometimes a lime wedge and a little cherry tomato, but I don't salt the rim.

If I'm going to drink a Bloody Mary, then it must be a Yacht Club:
Spicy V8
Old Bay on the rim
and a skewered shrimp

I like those. The place we got them at put a small spoon full of cocktail sauce in it. Using V8 is a great idea. I use V8 in my soups.

Just be careful when trying to suck that oyster out of your glass. I was new at this shooter, and I tipped the double shot glass and tried to suck that oyster out of the bottom, and instead got a dose of hot cocktail, down my windpipes..........I just about turned purple.

I will have to make some bloody marys this weekend. Not much of a liquor drinker but those sound great.......

There is this little bookstore restaurant on the Cape. You need to check it out

http://www.wellfleetoyster.com/

The restaurant overlooks Wellfleet harbor. Nothing better than oysters and hot sauce and cold beer!
