I started a thread here recently about marijuana as an anti-cancer agent. There ended up being a lot of debate therein over how long one must abstain from pot to pass a urine test. Allen (SantaCruzBlues), Steve (skypup) and a couple others said 30 days. I disagree.............I would agree that trace amounts would be in your system up to 30 days. But I believe a couple of weeks of abstinence will lower the amount enough to pass a urine test.

Which way do you vote? Cast your votes here. I JUST DONATED MY PEE THIS MORNING. I abstained for exactly 17 days. The results should be in by early next week, at the latest. DID I PASS OR DID I FAIL??

Oh yeah............excuse my while I light one up to celebrate that it's over, then get on my mountain bike!

I always heard up to 30 for urine, up to 60 for blood.

I'm eager to find out your results.

This is just an experiment right?

No, it is not just an experiment. It's for a job in the medical field as a Respiratory Therapist.

it depends on your usage?

a heavy user will likely fail at 17 days

a light or irregular user will likely pass

don't have enough facts to make the call

I will hope that you passed!

I would not call myself a heavy user, John. On days I work, I don't smoke at all, even when I get home because I'm too tired after a 12 hour shift. I probably average four joints a week.

My guess would be how much to do you smoke. Everyday, then you'll probably need 30-days to clean your system out. Occasional, week-end smokess you should be alright after 14 days. Btw, drink plenty of fluids as that will help flush out the system before it get's into the fat cells. Remember marijuana is fat-soluable, which is why it stays in your system so long.

Your weight also has a good bit to do with it along with how much of it is body fat vs lean muscle. Over 200 lbs and a slow metabolism usually makes it stay in the system longer than say a lean person with a higher metabolism as it stores in the fat cells.

It also depends on the threshold the labs are testing at, as some thresholds for further testing of the sample vary from lab to lab. Pre employment usually the threshold is not so severe but because this is a medical position it could be higher. It really is a roll of the dice and depends on a lot of different factors.

I hope you pass, Rob, but if you haven't been taking anything, just abstaining, 14 days is risky. You don't smoke that much, so that helps, but I've always heard 30 days.

I guess we'll soon find out. Hope I'm wrong.

I wish you the best and hope you pass. Four joints a week, 2 weeks without, you may just pass it. I have passed before with about the same usage as you and I smoked one the day before.

Let us know.

Hope you pass Rob. It also makes a big difference how many times you had been to the restroom that day. You NEVER want to give them the first 3 times of the day. That is why the teas, and other large quantity drink supplimants work. They make you go 4, or 5 times before you test.

I have a buddy who took a piss test today but toked up 3 days ago. Drank gallons of water and even swigged some vinegar to detox. I hope both of you pass.

I don't want to bet, I just hope like hell that you pass. 7 days is scary and body fat does have a lot to do with it. I am still looking for work and have been without for about 12 days.

Dave that joke was a good un..

well, this depends alot on the individual. THC is a fat-soluble compound, so it likes to get stored up in the body fat. Its not exclusively stored there, which is why they can find it in the hair also. A skinny , high-metabolism individual would probably be clean after 2 weeks. A fat slob laying on the couch all day might be too, but if he decided to also get into shape and start exercising and buring fat than he would most likely have a higher level of the metabolite in his urine and test (+) after 2 weeks.

Hope this helps.

"aren't you taking an awful chance?" I see your point, dawg.

However, I look at it this way: I just did 17 days of abstinence. That should prove to the world that I am not beholden to this stuff to the point that it controls my life. I abstained not just for the test, but also to prove to myself that I COULD. I feel that if someone cannot abstain from marijuana for 17 days, maybe they ARE addicted. Can you imagine a hard core alcoholic or cigarette smoker not touching the stuff for 17 days?

There comes a point where I have satisfied my own degree of personal self control, honor and dedication to my line of work. To me, 17 days of abstinence ought to be enough to prove to them that I am in control of my life and not addicted to anything. If the trace amount of marijuana in my system after 17 days of abstinence is going to disqualify me for employment at this facility, as far as I'm concerned they can take their job and shove it up their f*cking ass. They would not hesitate to hire someone (even though it's a Respiratory Therapy job!) who is taking five breaks a day to walk outside and kill themselves puffing on cancer sticks, because they don't test for tobacco. At some point you have to take a stand for your own personal sanity and say, "I did what I think should satisfy them. If that's not enough, shove it." There is a limit to how much they are going to control my life. And by the way, I must admit, I sure did enjoy that big joint today before I got on my bicycle.
