1. I don't have to "prove" anything to anyone. I've already done it.

2. I don't have to worry about what is "fashionable." I have a bunch of clothes I like, and that's what I wear.

3. I still have my hair, so I'm special!

4. I've been around long enough to know my way around in the world. A whole lot of the questions I had when I was young have been answered.

5. With 35 years experience in my field, I'm an "expert." People "ask" me now. Not many "tell" me.

Any more?

No offense, Big Dave. I just refuse to think of growing older as a bad thing.

I like that I'm considered eccentric, whereas I used to be just weird! I have my hair too, though much more than a touch of grey. As they say, I don't care what color it turns, so long as it don't turn loose!

The thing I love most about getting older is that I AM getting older as opposed to the alternative...

I'm growing older but not up
My metabolic rate is pleasantly stuck

I didn't say it was a bad thing, Allen, but there are things I don't like about it. Mainly the way my body is changing.....for the worse.

LOL - Jacquie has got it right ... sure beats the alternative! I'm with Dave - don't think getting older is a bad thing but must admit that the body doesn't operate like it did when I was younger. There are some real positives about getting older (in addition to that 'alternative' thing ) and you've touched on many of them Allen - it's comforting to know yourself and be confident in who you are ... something that is not so common in youth. And knowing retirement is aroiund the corner can be lovely! I feel like I have many more choices in life now (in 50's) than I did when I was in say my 20's or 30's. Me likee!

I'm ok with getting older because I grew up in a great time period...the 60's and 70's.

I don't mind if it's greying as long as it's staying.

I like a good nap

Watching my wonderful children grow into adulthood.

Listening to "my music"

Hanging with folks who love the music I love with no one judging you because of your age.

We'll have social security to collect....sadly not every one who contributed will see the fruits of their labors.

BDOB not knowing how old you are, but I would suspect I have at least 15 years on you, just wait to see the changes your body throws at you...buckle up.

Dutch, I'm 47. I'm not dying or anything. Just noticing things lately....

No matter how old you are, you're as young as you'll ever be.

Honestly I didn't notice things until a few years ago and I'm 59, hell you're to young to think about old.

I've pretty much reached the point where I don't care what anyone else thinks. I guess maybe I used to pretend to care, but I don't even do that anymore. I'm cool with who I am and don't care if anyone else isn't.

I'm right there with you Like Otie's signature...just don't give a damn. But don't care much for the aches and pains. Also, definitely much more at peace with myself, and really enjoying seeing my sons become adults.

Yes, Jacquie that is very true... on the flip side .. for women.. I think it's more of a life changing event...aside from the physical changes we must endure ... the body changes.... I really hate that... There are the psychological ones to deal with. But after you master that little down period... Life is good and we should enjoy the fruits of our labors...

Can't help thinking of this .. not sure ( or can't remember , another draw back of getting older ) who said this.. But as I age... it becomes truer everyday..

Youth is wasted on the young... gad dang it...

and also The Golden Years ..hmmmm not sure about that one , either....

The other day I was talking to a guy at work and one of the 20 somethings came by and asked me who the old guy was since I seemed to know him. I was kinda pleased on her face when I told her was one of my high school buddies, and he was actually two years behind me.

She looked back at me and in her best black, urban voice said "Ain't no damn way!"

When I showed her my drivers' license, she realized I was actually the same age as her grandmother.

The best part is that she said she had never thought of me as being "old".

Looking back at my short life and what I am going thru now with my divorce it makes me think about it a lot more. I realize my journey is full of highs but recently more lows than I would lilke. These are all lessons that I can take with me and even pass on to my children. I have had a few missteps on this path so far, learned my own faults that may have lead to these problems. In the end I feel I am re-focused on my life and if a new woman comes into it than that will be great. If not then I understand who I am, what I stand for, and maybe the higher one wants me on this journey alone. I am currently walking the path of life waiting for the next road or highway that has my name on it.

It is extremely liberating to do what you want and not care what anyone thinks!

That's probably the best thing about growing older. I finally figured out there is no one out there I have to impress. There is no one whose approval I need to have a complete life.
