Folks, Just wanted to share an article that ran on Friday in my local paper. My friend John Barry had an opportunity to interview Greg recently and sounds like all is well with him. Hope to see all of you on the return of the Allman Brothers Band on Tuesday! Peace

When he is not making any music, Allman likes to ride one of the several motorcycles he owns.

"You just get to think about stuff and you get the wind blowing through your hair and over your helmet," said Allman, who owns three Harley-Davidsons.

And he also loves dogs - he's got four of them.

Oh man... this is so good to read!! I am so excited for this Saturday!!! 3rd row baby!!!!

There's another quote of getting together to make an album real soon.

Wonder if they will actually do it for their 40th?

Can only hope.

I like the charging from the gate quote I bet Gregg is ready to play, this has to be the longest he has gone without playing music in front of people since he was a teenager.

I'm not sure about this though...

"Playing in New York, anywhere, the Northeast has pretty much become the nucleus of our fan base,"

The band does have a few fans in the South I know the band has a lot of fans in NY, but I would put the "nucleus" of the Allman Brothers fanbase somewhere around Atlanta.

Then again, I'm biased

I think it's a tie between the NYC/NE USA crowd and the Georgia/Florida crowd. The New Yorkers get the Beacon run every year, which I know draws folks from all over the world, but you just haven't experienced the band until they've played in the south. I think a few of the NYC/Northeast US folks will agree that once they experienced Wanee, they GOT what we've been talking about, same as us southern fans GOT the Beacon experience. Two different ways to enjoy the band, both good.

As far as them putting out a new CD of new music....in due time. Patience is a virgin.

"I hope to get the brothers in the studio next year for a new record," he said.

Allman said he and Allman Brothers Band guitarist and vocalist Haynes have written several songs together, and Haynes and bass player Oteil Burbridge have written an instrumental together.

YESSSSSSSS!!!!

I think the instrumental refers to Egypt. As for the songs with Haynes I'll believe it when I hear it. As other people have noted the ABB does not currently have a record deal. Couple that with the another fact that has been noted here by other people: The ABB has to tour to stay afloat. Touring comes before recording in priorities. With the dTb toruing pushing a brand new studio album for a *MAJOR LABEL*(which is a MUCH more important thing than ABB touring) and also the Mule touring as usual and all of next March and the summer taken up with a big ABB 40th Anniversary marketing blitz. . . Well I don't realistically see a window of opportunity to record a new album next year.

Sounds more lilke a well orchestrated media hype to get the fans jacked up before the tour starts in a few days. I mean NO interviews at all in months and then suddenly a few days beforehand theres one and mention of "I hope to get the brothers in the studio next year for a new record".

Don't get me wrong, I to hope they do(although I wish Derek would bail). They need to. Its way past time. But realistically . . .

Wish Derek would bail????? why is that? makes no sense to this ABB and Derek fan.

Yes, I do wish Derek Trucks would bail from the ABB permanently. Why . . . Simply put: the Derek Trucks Band would be much better off with his full attention.

I here where you're saying...not sure though. Its not like he is on the road with ABB all that much. In comparison to DTB touring the ABB is not much. Plus after seeing Derek with ABB since 99 I am not sure I could go back to another line up. it is great getting both Derek's...DTB and Allmans Derek...

As much as I love the Derek Trucks Band, the day I can no longer see Derek play songs like Dreams and Mountain Jam with the Allman Brothers will be a sad day. I'll probably wear a black armband or something

Holt, I'm sure you can understand that calling for the end of the Allman Brothers Band, which would be the likely result of Derek "bailing," isn't going to go over well on an ABB website. I know that you think the band could move on without Derek, but I think you might be just about the only person on Earth who believes that is possible, or likely.

Two quick points...

--As you said, Derek and his band are recording a new album and will be touring behind it, and they just finished a very successful tour opening for Santana. It doesn't seem like Derek's duties with the ABB are keeping him from working on his own music. Would they be "better off" with Derek's "full attention"? I suppose so, but they're doing pretty good as is.

--The whole idea that a band needs a "record deal" to put out a CD is way out of date. When Radiohead, arguably the biggest band in the world, doesn't have a record deal, then all the old rules no longer apply. If the ABB want to put out a studio CD, they can. Your argument about everyone's schedule being so tight is a bigger obstacle.

Sounds like he is ready to get it on... as far as the fanbase it is hard for us westernrs to be part of the fanbase WHEN THEY DON'T COME HERE BUT EVERY 5 OR 6 YEARS!!! HINT HINT!

I agree with Rob and have said so many times. It has taken this lineup a lot of years to develop the chemistry where they think they are creating worthwhile art and not just earning a paycheck. You cannot just replace one of the two legendary guitarists at this point like they are interchangeable. Betts was replaced at a time when the perception was that he was not elevating his game for whatever reason. That is NOT the current percpetion. The Dat Derek or Warren announces their departure is the day the ABB begins to wind down. I have a friend who has insisted Warren was on the verge of leaving every year since 2005. He shows no signs of departure. I think he and Derek enjoy playing with the ABB and of course the paycheck it brings.

Doug

Holt, Radiohead's album wasn't just a digital release. You can get a hard copy. They sold over a million physical CDs in this country alone, and they did it without a record label.

It is fair to say that it's apples and oranges to compare the ABB and Radiohead, but they have shown that it can be done, and on a much bigger scale than any new ABB CD. While we all love the ABB on this site, even in a best-case scenario they probably won't sell a million copies of a new CD, no matter what record label they are on.

But Rob, isn't the band against digital downloads?

Or have they relaxed that a bit?

Every show the ABB played last year is available as a digital download, so yes, they have changed their policy on that front.

However, I want to re-emphasize that the reason I used Radiohead as an example is NOT because of the "pay what you want" digital download they did for In Rainbows. It is because they sold lots of CDs without a record label. That is the point I was making.
