Why must the brothers insist on touring with Phil Lesh this time around? When I saw the dates in Raleigh and Charlotte I was excited as hell. But then I saw Phil Lesh. I used to be a big fan of the dead back in high school, but their jams get old and monotonous after a while. What happened to the days of touring with the Drive-By Truckers, Derek Trucks Band or Skynyrd? Allman are too ingrained in my southern ways to be touring with Phil, sorry bud. I'll probably end up sitting in the parking lot drinking some beer instead of going in for their set.

barefootbrother: take the previous post for what it's worth; after all, the guy's screen name is "the deadhead". You wouldn't exactly expect him to HATE Phil Lesh, now would you? I am 100% with you; The Grateful Dead and ALL their spin-off bands just bore the hell out of me.

I understand what you guy are taking about. Of course the spin of bands arent the grateful dead. I admit they sometimes bore me too. All i am saying is just give the band a chance. Jackie Greene and Larry Mitchell are two great guitarist that should not be missed.

Man, I don't understand the problem. I think you are lucky as hell to get that double bill. You're getting four hours or so of unbelievable musicians. This Phil & Friends lineup is magical. I wish we were getting Phil at Jones Beach instead of Ratdog. I got my dose of Phil & Friends at Jones Beach in July and I'm going to at least three Nokia shows in November.

I'm not doubting musicianship or anything of the like. I'm just saying, I get bored by their songs. I just think that Allman should be touring with someone else. I've seen Phil Lesh before, and they honestly weren't that great. But the times I've seen the Truckers or Skynyrd on the bill with them have been some of the most kick ass shows I've been to. I just think they should be playing with someone more their style. The "space out" jams have got to go. I don't like to be yawning going into Allman's set....

Yea Phil is a good show still, yea some of their extended jams are a bit much, but i would much rather have phil then ratdog, which i do for two allmans shows next week. i saw phil at bonnaroo, and they are a great time.

Correct. My last ABB show had them opening for DMB, not my preference by a longshot, but I went in with an open mind and enjoyed it. I almost wish the Chastain shows had Phil opening instead of an evening with, but no matter, I get to see Phil open for the Crowes earlier that week. The top priced ticket for the NC shows is $54, a screaming bargain as they say on Wall Street.

"Extended jams are boring." Did I read that right, here on a ABB site?

I think the pairing w/ Phil or even Ratdog for that matter is a real good one. There is a heavy cross pollination of fans between those bands. Actually wish Phil was playing instead of Ratdog for our 2 shows at PNC & Camden. I thought the pairing of LS was horrendous and the one w/ Petty wasnt much better. Say what you want about deadheads but they do take their music very seriously as Allman fans do but those Skynyrd and to a lesser extent Petty fans are a different breed. Always hated being in a LS crowd. Just felt like being at a Nascar race w/ a Skynyrd cover band playing the event. ( Sorry to all fans of the Current Skynyrd). That was purely a marketing stunt and the Current ABB has much more in common w/ any Dead related band.

i hope neil leash comes on first and plays a 45 minute deadhead jam for background music while iam out buying one of everything at the brothers tee shirt shack and the htn tent and visting with them folks and have a few cold ones! hopefully by then the brothers will be ready to hit the stage and convert the deadheaders into blues blessed people by playin a 3 and half hour blues set at virginia beach! then them deadheaders will have a whole ne journey to embark on to find out where it all started.

Jackie Greene single-handedly makes the current Lesh line-up the best post Jerry band by a wide margin. If you choose to pass on the opener, it will be your loss but I think if you get into 2-3 Jackie sung/played songs, your mind will open and change. He has made this band fresh, current, relevent and most importantly, FUN!!!

Better check the schedule in advance before you decide to stay in the lot. The headlining(closing) slot is rotating. You may miss ABB.

I don't think so. These are ABB shows, with Ratdog/PL co-headlining, but opening.

Loved the Q...and I'll be willing to give the new P & F lineup a break at Meriweather.

If you stay in the lot look out for Mr. Charlie...

It's almost 10 years since Phil's liver transplant and Hep-C treatment. His comeback shows in April '99 were pretty special. I imagine the feeling seeing Gregg in Bethel this coming Tuesday will be much the same. The two of them have been carrying the torch, since both bands became the premier leaders in improvisational rock music. I'm sure they could get together and tell some entertaining war stories. There are many fans that love the Dead & ABB equally and then there are those in both camps that want to trash talk the others. Whether you like the opening act or not, you're free to tailgate or do anything else during that time and still get the full 2.5 hours of ABB.

Long live Phil Lesh & Gregg Allman and thank you for years of music that's made our lives better.

Very well said.
Like many people on this site, 3.13.06 or 3.21.05, means something to the hardcore ABB fan. P&F and maybe to a lesser extent the Ratdog fans have their favorite lineups and performances, too. Just the linkage w/ Phil and Warren, Derek and Jimmy.

Go with open ears and an open mind.

I still like the Q the best, but the Jakie Green, Larry Campbell tandem is amazing and they keep getting better and better. Although I don't hate Molitz on keys, I would much rather see Barracco. I think that band would be almost perfect if you swaped in Barracco for Molitz for his playing as well as his voice for harmonies.

The music is just, so...............Lacking in the power and relentlessness the Allmans bring to a Live performance. Puts me to sleep.

I like Phil even if he doesn't have Jimmy and Warren in the band anymore.

My only question is ABB headlining or is in alternating like in '01? Just need to be sure
to get out of the parking lots in time. Not that I care who goes first other than to be there
when ABB starts .

maybe they can get DTB to open like in '01?
