Great album - so many great songs - this might be my favorite though...

Desperados Under The Eaves

I was sitting in the Hollywood Hawaiian Hotel
I was staring in my empty coffee cup
I was thinking that the gypsy wasn't lyin'
All the salty margaritas in Los Angeles
I'm gonna drink 'em up

And if California slides into the ocean
Like the mystics and statistics say it will
I predict this motel will be standing until I pay my bill

Don't the sun look angry through the trees
Don't the trees look like crucified thieves
Don't you feel like Desperados under the eaves
Heaven help the one who leaves

Still waking up in the mornings with shaking hands
And I'm trying to find a girl who understands me
But except in dreams you're never really free
Don't the sun look angry at me

I was sitting in the Hollywood Hawaiian Hotel
I was listening to the air conditioner hum
It went mmmmmm..

Look away...
(Look away down Gower Avenue, Look away....)

LOL! Love your sig video...!

"What in the Wide World of Sports is going on here?"...

This is not an anthology, even though it just happens to contain some of Warren's finest songs.

This self titled album has always been considered by Warren to be his debut. It was produced by Jackson Browne with an all star cast from his posse at the time and even though it was not a huge success, at first anyway, it pretty much announced to the music world that this guy was a major talent.

Warren actually put out an album called Wanted Dead or Alive prior to this under the single name Zevon but has always disowned it as being a totally failed project.

Too bad as it was rereleased a few years back and it is not as bad as he claimed. It has some fine songs on it among the not so great songs. But I would only reccommend it to someone who is already a Warren Zevon fan,

The album referred to in the ad is the one I would reccommend to someone who I hoped to convert to a fan.

Warren Zevon is currently in print by the way, but I am very interested in the line regarding unreleased bonus tracks...

Agreed. I'd be hardpressed to pick a favorite song off this album, but if I had to, it would be a tie between this one and Frank and Jesse James.

I just picked up Stand in the Fire from his 1981 show at the Roxy in L.A. Its one those cds I can't put down. He is so maniacal, its great. At one point he tells someone that if they don't start dancing he is going to kill them. The man is idiosyncratic to say the least. Whenever a particular friend of mine would get into trouble at school his mom would inevitably ask him over the phone, "Should we send lawyers, guns and money?"

Looking forward to picking this up.

Wouldn't be the first time bro...

I grabbed the book a few months ago and yes...it's a facinating read. The man was a genius. And he was a flawed genius. Just like many true artists are.

I really respect the fact that he told his ex wife and lifelong friend Crystal that he wanted his story told with all those flaws included. Nothing sanitized. He knew his failings better than anyone. And he wanted his bio to be brutally honest. Just like some of his best work.
