Seven years ago since the little run from Va. Beach to Hot'Lanta with Phil and Friends co-headliners. Anybody on here go to them?

I made Charlotte. ABB opened and PL&F closed. That is when I became a Phil Lesh fan.

I flew to Charlotte for that show and met up with some friends who drove me to Atlanta. We stopped at the Potter's in Lilburn for a pre show gathering, was a great time then off to the Hi-Fi Buys Amphitheater for the last of the run. Was a great time. Crashed out at a nearby motel that night, rented a car the next morning and made the pilgrimage to where it all began, Macaon GA. Spent the day with folks, saw the sites, paid my respects to brothers Duane and Berry, drove back to Atlanta the next morning for my flight back to reality. My life has not been the same since. What a great time.

I made VA Beach, Raleigh, and Charlotte. Not only were the shows special, that weekend was when I first met so many wonderful HTW friends!

The Raleigh show was even more special because that was the final ABB show I got to share with my dad.

It was a great few days!

My first trip to Shroom River, just caught the Atlanta show. More immersion in this family, missed many I wanted to meet due to a late-arriving co-pilot for the day. Refreshing though, as he was one who saw the original band several times, never went back after Duane passed. Until that day. First meeting with Marley, Peachnutt, Scotty. At the venue.

I just remembered getting a phone call from Tommy Cash while we were stuck in a traffic jam outside the venue, in a rain storm.

MArley & I did the VA Beach, Raleigh, Charlotte and Atlanta. In some ways, a defining moment for both us.... The shows were all special, especially 8/4/ (Atlanta?) as well as the time we spent at Lana's and JFC's in VaBeach was incomprable.....a specatular weekend....We met Easymichael there too!!!

I made the Va. Beach show. What an incredible night of music with DTB > ABB > PLQ, with all guitar players sitting in on all sets. You could have fried an egg on the Southbound with Jimmy Herring. Phil opened with Jam > Morning Dew that night. Hell, here's the setlist from the whole show:

08/01/2001 - Virginia Beach, VA

Derek Trucks Band -
The Ghetto
Clown #2
Cheese Cake
Karm-a-Lay >
Rastaman Chant
Make a Joyful Noise

Allman Brothers Band -
Black Hearted Woman
Midnight Rider
Hoochie Coochie Man
Ain't Wasting Time No More
Stand Back
Trouble No More
Rockin' Horse
Good Clean Fun
Desdamona
The Same Thing
Soulshine
Statesboro Blues
Southbound (w/ Jimmy Herring)

Phil Lesh & Friends -
Jam >
Morning Dew >
Mason's Children >
All Along the Watchtower >
Strawberry Fields Forever >
Cosmic Charlie
Sunshine of Your Love* >
The Other One* >
Sugaree*
E: Bertha

*w/ Derek Trucks

I was at the Virginia Beach show, having missed Merriweather due to conflict (Emmy Lou Harris at Wolftrap already purchased )

Had a great time hanging with Mike in the lot.

I only saw the Atlanta show, but it was a good one! Chuck Leavell sat in on Desdemona and Jessica, I believe that's right. I remember being pleasantly surprised by how much the band had evolved and progressed since I saw them at the Beacon in March of '01.

It's funny, that show seems a lifetime ago. I wasn't working for Hittin' the Note, 9/11 hadn't happened yet, and my wife and I had just moved into our first apartment together.

This year's "Southern Swing" with Phil and Friends promises to be equally epic I've heard some Phil shows from this summer, and that band is smoking hot. Check out the Rothbury Festival show on Archive.org, the second set will knock your socks off.

Can't wait!

Rob...we also got Chuck L that night on All Night Train, One Way Out and a full-on Mountain Jam encore.

Atlanta was the only show I hit on that run, but I got a chance to go to the afternoon pre-show party and see and meet a bunch of good folk at Shroom River.

If I am recalling correctly, we got Susan T first in between a sideways massive rain storm. I remember a great Sugaree during the Phil & Friends show. The ABB did not disapoint in my second time seeing them that year (both with Chuck L).

The Charlotte show was fun, first time meeting the other guys in the photo, I had traded shows with them all before but first time meeting them. I know Bird, Brent and myself got to use the VIP tent due to a ticket mixup by Ticketmaster. Have to thank RonE for getting us in there, and the free tickets! I would love to get together again with these peachheads. I think Bird's black socks tradition started with this photo taken by Jeanne.

You mean that was real?!?

What a long, strange trip. Indeed!

Okay...4 days isn't all that long in the grand scheme of things; and I do mean strange in the nicest possible way! *laugh*

Good times.
