banana in the window? Great art my ass!

Artist Michael Fernandes' exhibit in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in June caused a commotion because it was merely a banana on a gallery's window sill, and Fernandes had it priced at $2,500 (Cdn) (down from his original thought, $15,000). Actually, Fernandes changed bananas every day (eating the old one), placing progressively greener ones out to demonstrate the banana's transitoriness. "We (humans) are also temporal, but we live as if we are not," he wrote. Despite the steep price, two collectors placed holds on the "work," requiring the gallery's co-owner, Victoria Page, to get assurance from callers. "It's a banana; you understand that it's a banana?" Went to MOMA while in NYC for Beacon 2007. There was a room you walked into with nothing on the walls. When in the room a light would go on then go off. We all stood around wondering what the deal was. I walked over to the description on the wall and it stated the piece was called room with light going on and off. Cracked us all up.

Also enjoyed a movie by Warhol of a camera pointed at empire state building for 24 hrs from 1958.

The MOMO is a great place to check out when hungover waiting for the next show at the Beacon.

Banana = not (???)

LOL - love this lamp!

Mr. Parker: Fra-gee-lay. That must be Italian.
Mrs. Parker: Uh, I think that says FRAGILE, dear.
Mr. Parker: Oh, yeah.

Actually found a Christmas tree decoration which is that crate marked fragile containing this lamp that plays the above line from movie when opened. (oh yeah - it's a working lamp, too - can be turned on and off )
