This morning at the 8:00 am break, they were playing Mule covering "Over the Hills" I was like, this is Mule. Thats Warren singing. They were like no this is an old live version from Zeppelin, but we can't check until is over. When it was over Fred says this is Gov't Mule.

Artie was saying they are a great band and was familiar with Warren in the ABB. Robin's friend is mule fanatic. Steph got a mention and Artie gave her credit for giving him tickets to past beacon runs. Howard wasn't too impressed, he preferred the original, but I think he was mostly confused and thought it was Zeppelin.

Pretty cool mention (even if they weren't overly impressed)

That's terrific. I don't think they've covered Over the Hills and Far Away so perhaps it was a live version and newly covered just for the show.

Howard said it sounded like bad Karaoke . When Artie explained who Stef was they replayed it and Howard softened his criticism.

it was a live version, just not sure where it was from. its probably one they play on JamOn, as sirius share's its music vault.

it sounded really good in the begining but once it got a little heavier they were more mule and less zeppelin. probably because its not very easy to play like page and sing like plant at the same time, but i think warren did a damn fine job

Umm....isn't this song from Houses of the Holy, which Mule covered and officially released from last year's Halloween show?

That is a very, very hard song to sing and make sound good unless you have a very high vocal range like a Robert Plant. I like the way the Mule played it musically, but it is one of the very few songs that I think Warren has a tough time on vocally. That was a poor choice for them to play on air. If they had played the Mule doing something like 'Since I've Been Loving You' or 'Trampled Under Foot' or 'How Many More Years' I'm sure Howard would have been very impressed.

I'd like to hear Plant try to hit the high notes in "Over the Hills" nowadays. NOT happening. Actually, I don't think he could hit those highs by the time Zep called it quits.

Ahhh, yes, now I remember and was reminded by another persona s well. Sorry for my forgetting the houses of the holy set Halloween 2007. The song didn't come up in Mule base so I thought it had not been done.

I wonder if Stern's people used the remastered version? I think the OTH&FA was the weakest sung tune of all of them and it was the first time the band played it so I can understand a little criticism, though overall the whole telling was fantastic. We listen to it all , not just a snippet here and there.

It's great to hear the Stern got it after being told that it was Warren and the Mule.

I listened to Howard Stern in the morning and caught Over the Hills. Fred swore it was Led Zeppelin. Howard was critical of the vocals which I agree was not great. They could have chosen another song to showcase Warren's vocals. Artie spoke highly of the Mule, Warren and the Allmans. It seems him, Gary and Robin are the only people with good musical tastes on the show. Howard has no clue and Fred is a RADIOHEAD.

Zero point Zero
