Just saw it on the news. A full sized male African lion, with the big mane. The authorities are advising all residents to stay inside, and keep all of their small pets (dogs, cats, etc) inside as well.

The strange thing is that the local zoo said they have no missing lions. They dont know where this lion came from.

"A lion is on the loose in Colorado, according to local reports.

The Associated Press says sheriff's deputies and wildlife officers mounted a search after someone reported seeing a lion with a "red mane and a big tail" this morning in eastern El Paso County, about 30 miles from Colorado Springs.

KKTV-TV says that there are now two reported sightings. The sheriff's office is calling local residents and warning them to stay inside, the station says.

One of the witnesses snapped a picture that shows the animal chasing a dog, according to KOAA-TV.

The Gazette says a police helicopter is joining the search. "Michael Seraphin, spokesman for the Colorado Division of Wildlife, said photos taken by two residents and tracks found by DOW officers confirm the animal is an African lion and not a courgar," according to the paper.

"Big Cats of Serenity Springs, a sanctuary in the area that houses lions, tigers, leopards and other animals, told sheriff's deputies that none of its cats were missing," AP reports, adding that "deputies asked the sanctuary to double-check."

Folks out there are not gonna mess around. Hopefully he can be tranquilized, and captured. People here in Ohio own them as pets too, but they end up in small cages for the biggest part of their lives which is not fare to such a wonderful animal.

I wonder what a grizzly would think of a African lion??? Two kings of the jungle meet face to face. Which would have the upper paw? I hope they catch the lion soon.

When I was stationed in Detroit they used to confiscate them when raiding the houses of drug king pins. They're used to guard fields and large quantities of drugs in storage (from what I have read in the news). They're usually fed raw chicken and malnourished at that.

I hope this one is captured and somehow rehabilitated.
