Fears for health of alcoholic Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood
By Aislinn Simpson
Last Updated: 5:22PM BST 11/07/2008

Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood's family fear for his health after he went on a drunken binge with a 19-year-old Russian girl.

Wood has been at his home in Ireland for the past week with the girl, Ekaterina Ivanova, who he is said to have met in a London club.

According to family friends, the alcoholic guitarist is close to "rock bottom". He is drinking two bottles of vodka a day and they fear for his life.

Bandmates Mike Jagger, Keith Richards and Rod Stewart have bombarded the singer with calls urging him to get help, one said.

Meanwhile Ivanova, a cocktail waitress from Moscow, has told friends that the 61-year-old rock star is now her boyfriend.

She claimed that there was a confrontation at Wood's southwest London home with his wife Jo.

Ivanova allegedly said Jo begged her not to steal her husband, and she replied: "I am not taking him - he is leaving."

Ivanova and Woods have spent the past week at the father-of-four Wood's house in Country Kildare, Ireland, where he is building a portfolio of artwork for an exhibition in London next week.

The Russian has told friends on the social networking site Facebook that she was "falling in love".

One said Ivanova told her about the alleged confrontation with Ronnie's wife.

She said: "She is absolutely besotted with Ronnie. Whether or not he knows it, she plans a future with him.

"She has told everyone Ronnie has left his wife for her and they are a full-on item."

But speaking from the couple's family home, Mrs Wood denied the altercation took place.

The former model, 53, who now owns a successful range of organic beauty products, said her husband was in Ireland painting and that she knew the girl was with him.

She said: "I know her - she's been here. I was quite all right that she was hanging around with him.

"They have been staying in Ireland and Ronnie's art man was with them.

"Ronnie told me she was staying there and I said, 'OK - get on with it and have a drink, go mad. Drink your guts up'."

Despite their previous hard-living lifestyle, the Woods have been together 31 years and have become feted in the industry as a model of how fidelity can work.

A source close to the guitarist said last night that Woods had meet Ivanova at a seedy London club while out drinking with friends, and that she left Wood's house in Ireland last night.

"It's all connected with his drinking," she said. "Each time Ronnie falls off the wagon it gets worse and he has been on a bender for the last two weeks.

"He is drinking two bottles of vodka a day. He doesn't remember anything or know where he is. It looks like he's risking his life.

"Mick, Keith and Rod have been calling saying 'what the hell are you doing?' but nothing's getting through. Ronnie is adamant this girl is just a friend but he's not thinking rationally. His family just want him to get better and come home."

Wow.

I remember reading an interview where Ronnie made no apologies for his drinking. Hell, he even built a Pub on his property. Not a basement/rec room bar but an actual Pub. He also hits rehab to get in shape before Stone's tours apparently.

Sounds like a visit to Clapton's Crossroads Center may be in order for poor Ronnie.........

Let the bastard drink himself to death.

Ron Wood may be an alcoholic but he's not quite a victim.

Or, let's all get sad and feel bad for the rich playboy rock star.

Gee, I wonder if he has 8 kids or five or six ex-wives?

If so we should REALLY feel sorry for him.

POOR Ronny.

Let me get this straight.....

Keith Richards and Rod Stewart are lecturing Ron Wood on the virtues of not drinking?

hmm, a man whose signature photo is that of a naked woman is indicting someone else for their misogyny?

"like he doesn't have five or six ex wives?"

if you are going to call someone out for a behavior, don't exhibit that same behavior yourself, albeit in a different form.

You have be able to land a woman in order to exhibit that behavior.

Vodka is the drink of violence when not taken in small doses. It eats your liver, as I am aware of having a close family member who used to down 2 or more half gallon bottles a day. Then went sober for years and started binging. When you binge like that with only a 1/3 of your liver left functioning you get effed up fast and your body can not process the alcohol and you can stay drunk for days and even weeks. It is sad and I have seen the effects of it with my own eyes.

Alcoholism is a disease and Ron Woods has this disease. Would you diss him if he had the disease called cancer or Hep C(which he probablly has)? Alcoholism is a family disease because the disease not only affects the alcoholic but their family. When you love someone (Mick, Keith and Rod do love Ron), then you do try to intervene to save their lives. It is not about their lives or past but about Ron's future. Most of us that have been affected by the disease alcholism are able to deal with it privately. I feel very sorry for his wife having to deal with this publicly. Hopefully, through the years, she has found Al-Anon family support services.

"Can Alcoholism Be Cured?

While alcoholism is a treatable disease, a cure is not yet available . That means that even if an alcoholic has been sober for a long while and has regained health, he or she remains susceptible to relapse and must continue to avoid all alcoholic beverages. “Cutting down” on drinking doesn't work; cutting out alcohol is necessary for a successful recovery.

However, even individuals who are determined to stay sober may suffer one or several “slips,” or relapses, before achieving long-term sobriety. Relapses are very common and do not mean that a person has failed or cannot eventually recover from alcoholism. Keep in mind, too, that every day that a recovering alcoholic has stayed sober prior to a relapse is extremely valuable time, both to the individual and to his or her family. If a relapse occurs, it is very important to try to stop drinking once again and to get whatever additional support is needed to abstain from drinking.

To answer your question that you may have,....Yes, I have lived with an alcolholic....he is dead.

Not to preach, but some of y'all might remember the story of my brother. I won't rehash that.

If any of this news about Ron Wood is true, at least he has the good fortune of not wasting away and dying on a "skid row" somewhere. With his acquired wealth, he'll be at the front of the line for liver and kidney transplants should that become necessary. Some poor child in a lesser part of town will have to wait.

I'm sure Ron's a fun guy to party with, but he seems a little irresponsible when it comes to his family. Fans will fine great things to say about him when the Hep-C and Sirrosis finally catch him.

God bless him.

What a loaded statement. Landing a woman is the same thing as seducing a woman with your money, charm and good looks. It's nothing more too that buying a cow to get the milk. Am I mysogynistic to clearly understand that most women will sell themeselves body and soul to be with a rock star. Those same women are seduced by nothing more again than money, prestige, sex appeal and mostly the free ride of bedding a rock star.

I don't hope to compete with a rock star but I can be repulsed by the lack of character, integrity, WISDOM, and morality that characterizes such vaccuous women.

But perhaps the best revenge of all is that many of the handsome smart guys end up having to be crucified in the end by having landed women who have no real substance. Or it's about the same as stating what can be worse than an empty headed blonde who has little more than a vaccuous gold digger's values.

I'll take an average, unpainted lady who has real character, wisdom, integrity, moral values and intelligence over the star chaser any day.

And LANDING a woman in this day and age is nothing more than gambling every dime and aquisition that you own hoping she has virtue. Or perhaps I am more talking about marriage because that is really where sex is something special, when two have made real comittments to the other. If only we didn't live in a culture that values divorce and property settlements more than marriage. It seems everybody is looking for a free ride.

Am I perfect? I'm nothing more than a grain of human sand in a sea of confused humanity. Does that not mean I cannot strive to be a more perfect human being? I'm saying I cannot give an endorsement to a rock star and a gold digger and nothing more.

The beautiful woman you see in my signature was found and saved through a google search. I kept it for months in a file. I finally threw caution to the wind and posted it as a signature. The photo makes me an easy target for your accusation of mysogyny. Sure, I'm shallow but I have some character and morality as well and I hope the latter rule my person in the end.

Also, I learned how to post and to change my signature person only recenlty and if you follow me in this forum you will see that I change the photo quite regularly. My last signature was an animated character doing a back flip. My signature is now something I change to amuse myself and maybe even occassionaly the forum.

Y'all are very right about this being a serious topic and disease. From what I have seen, it is an evil thing for a soul to battle. Every bit as bad as drug addiction, maybe even worse in some ways.

My making funny of the post was not intended as a mocking of the issue and sorry if I came across that way. The mental image of Rod and Keith sitting around coaching Ronnie gave me a mental image of a Saturday Night Live skit.

On a bigger level....... Due to my own suitcase of tragedy, and the truckload of tragedy even on this website and in this family, and tragedies associated with people around my age group (am 52) it is getting overwhelming. Reading this site is getting harder and harder. Everone has somebody needing prayers. Everyone knows somebody in a battle health wise. Many know someone slowly dying (aren't we all?)....

If I dwell on all that, a what is the point of living tone can set in an underlying way...... my only defense is not to ignore the hardships, as you can't, but to somehow find a laugh.

As someone who was a diseased sick person, I can say my fellow disease mates and I often made sick, crude humor about it, that probably only makes sense to someone like that........

My late sister Karen was an ER nurse in New York Hospital, one of the busiests ER's around. She told the funniest, sick, on the surface maybre even taken as heartless, jokes. I believe it was her way of coping, like law officers, corrections officers, child services workers, etc sometimes have to do. It keeps insanity at bay.........

Having said all that, I found JR's post heartless and cold. I find his woman pic offensive. I find his sometimes put downs verbally of women here offensive. I sometimes find his posts funny also. I am tired of jabbing with people 180 degrees from me (ala RT). Be whatever you want on the net. If I ever see someone in person and they spew obnoxiousness in my face, then that is reality. Different game.

Peace to all and happy Saturday

Bird, thank you for your candid comments. While we have seen a lot of tragedy here lately, this wonderful ABB family has helped others, including me, deal with the heartbreak and sorrow of losing a loved one and of watching them die. Some come here to create ill-will and instigate, but they can't take away the spirit of this website as much as they might like.

The thread is about Ron Woods. Who better to try and pull him out of his hell than those who have been there themselves, like Mick Jagger, Rod Steward, Keith Richards? i hope Ron comes out of this alive and sober. I can only send positive thoughts to Ron.

I'm sorry you feel that I am here to attack you Ruthelane. I'm a part, a small part, of this wacky ABB family whether I planned to be or not so stop being a victim of my personality. I am who I am as you are who you are. I am sorry for any sorrow and loss that you have been through presently or recently. I don't know what is going on in your private life and I am CERTAINLY not coming here to make you feel bad, nor am I attacking you. But you have to admit that the slobbering over Gregg Allman in the Gregg forum can leave many nauseated. If I had a thread where I was slobbering constantly over some female with Gregg's personal life and drug addicted past then perhaps you'd shine the LIGHT of WISDOM and REALITY into my eyes.

The point is IDOLIZE someone with real CHARACTER, VALUES, MORALS, INTEGRITY etc whether they be HOMELY, UGLY, POOR, UNPOPULAR, OLD, YOUNG, etc. Stop placing ROUGES on a PEDESTAL.

That being said Gregg is a handsome singer with a fantastic and magical appeal that doesn't escape me either. Gregg is an awesome and celebrated person in music. I wish he was worthy of the time I have spent collecting his music. As it is I WASTE my time following him and other rock and roll personalities. It's truely not the best USE of my finite life span.

If a thread made me sick I would stay away from it. At this point you are mostly amusing and I didn't name you in my post. You must be feeling guilty.

Ruthelane, I don't go to shows and you won't find pictures of me all over the forum. I'm no TerriB or LinnieX or PhotoRon or Wharfat or any well known forum member. You try very hard to talk down to me but mostly you come off as some silly moronic female. The thing is you hang out in one of the many CHICK THREADS of the forum. And when you are not there you are bringing that DRIVEL here into the main body of the forum. I know women add to this forum but why don't you strive to post an intelligent thought. If Pam ran around the forum posting drivel the way you do I would just have easily have said the same thing to her. Your YAHOO club of salivating and aging fattys and has been groupie types adds little to the forum. But you are part of the rah, rah fanbase that this forum depends on.

Me, I just hang out here.

I'm no cheerleader, but we depend on folks like you to keep us going. You encourage me to forget about who a person really is and to rely on the insubstantial rock and roll persona. Thank you Ruthie for helping constantly to not see the light. Or, Rah, Rah. Three cheers for Gregg and and Band!
