It is still over priced any way you look at it. People are pissed at the oil companies for making 9% proift, I wonder what the ABB bottom line is?

Well I would not be mad at the oil compaies for making a 9% profit if we were all able to do that..

I am sure if you truly knew how much they were making, you probly wouldn't feel that way. Wouldn't it piss you off if you paid 65 for a ticket that they could have sold you for $5? So Ratdog is worth 60 and the mule is worth $5? Like i said, I don't mind the ABB making a profit, but give me a break, these prices are waaay to high for the same show I was getting 8 years ago. I love the ABB and of course will go. They have me over a barrel.

is it possible that they are paying $5 a gallon for diesel for tour buses and equipment trucks just like everyone else?

Maybe they can get a fill up for a song

I'm pretty sure you don't have to attend ABB concerts...I'd be more outraged over the cost of food, gas and heating oil. I have natural gas, so I'm pretty much captive, but got a letter from a local oil company offering a lock in of $4.35/gal. There's going to be some cold people this winter.

If the band is worth the money to you, then you buy the ticket. If it isn't worth it, you are foolish to pay the money. You have to decide which is more important to you, the money or the music.

BTW, I paid $65 to see Gov't Mule and Ratdog last week and IMO it was well worth the money.

Good then you won't want to see them at Wharfstock and I can leave the festivities early and reduce the amount of abuse you give me...

gregallmanfan had the best point I've read in this thread: The price of a lot of other commodities are a lot more outrageous than $45 to sit on the lawn and hear the Brothers.
And yes, transporting their entourage around the country costs them a lot more these days than it ever did before.

I payed $3 for a ticket to a general admission show in the Spring of 1971. I had a part time job making 75 cents per hour. Even then concerts were expensive in relation to my income but worth the price.

What does it cost to secure the venue, pay the insurance and cover the costs of the actual show production, and make money off of it? Can anyone shed any light on the cost of doing business in the concert world these days?

Another subject we don't know is how some of the band members, especially the originals, are fixed financially. Obviously there has been commercial and touring success, but from the Skydog book I got the idea they didn't make much in the early days. There's no pension or 401K or health insurance is there? Or do recording artists have some union plan? Of course, there was some wild spending "in the day" right? My point being that as Gregg, Jaimoe and Butch look at retirement, they may be seeing these last few tours as their last chance to fund that. And we'd all agree they deserve that much for all they've given us.

Blah, Blah, Blah..............inflation would suggest that the price is fair. Do the math, I have and if it still seems overpriced to you, don't go brother. Those of us that think the value of this band is priceless will reduce spending in other areas to get to as many Brothers shows as we can because there ain't many left. If ya love em, you will find a way to go!

As the best band still standing in the United States, the ABB deserve every penny they earn from the people who earned their own money as well and are willing to spend it to see the ABB.

I am sure back in 1968 this is not what these musicians had in mind.
I'm sure that back in 1968 they didn't have $4.00 gallons of gas in mind either.

I've never paid to see Dickey.

I take that back, there was a $20 entry for the Pixburgh Blues Festival.

How about a lid -- that's a word that went out with the times -- a "lid" was another word for a bag of weed, an ounce IIRC -- or right around the size of a three-finger bag!!
