Can anyone talk to me about someone they know who has had bulimia (vomiting after eating)? Darcie & I & my brother have confirmed that my mother has this illness and I am contemplating how to get her help. We are considering an intervention but doing so is like walking on egg shells with family and friends in trying to make sure she won't find out about it before hand. I am so hesitant because my mother is so defensive and that is exactly what I expect from her when this all goes down.

I don't know that this would be the right approach either. I have been reading up on websites about eating disorders and it seems she will have to go through therapy. I don't know if that means she will have to be sent away or if it would be out patient or what. But she will not go if she has to take time off from work.

So what do I do? I am really curious to hear from anyone who has had experience with this.

Help her. Aside from the mental anguish that bulimia usually arises from the physical ramifications can be terrible. Good luck! You and your sibs are taking a brave step - I'm sure it can't be easy to approach something like this with you mother. Sending her prayers for health.

there are organizations out there that can help you......from just giving you information to leading you through whatever intervention might be the most effective. Bulimia is a terrible disease/disorder and can do some serious damage (as I am sure you are already aware!) so just letting your Mom know you are aware of it is a huge step in allowing her to take the next steps.
Sending prayers and strength to you and your family and your Mom...............and wishing you good luck in the future with this................you are very brave.
