Got a note today that my purchase of tickets for theABB/Ratdog show in Chicago at Northerly Island came with a one year subscription to Entertainment Weekly (a $19.99 value!). What bullsh!t!

If you don't want it, you have to go to their website to unsubscribe.

You can ask for a refund of the $19.99 - but you have to mail the card back to them with the word "Rebate" on it, and they can take 8 weeks to send it to you.

I went back to the Ticketbastard site, and sure enough, it had wording that said this comes with your order.

This is complete BS. I need to find a way to get tickets other than from TB.

(Although they did refund all of my George Carlin ticket $ except the $3.15 processing fee).

I can't believe they can tack all this other stuff on your order, and then force you to cancel it and wait for a refund. There was no way to opt out of this up front (that I know of). I may have to check with the Ill. Atty General office - I don't think that is allowed in Illinois.

That must be how I got my subscription to EW. When they started arriving I accused my daughters of getting caught in some online order BS, but then I looked at the label and it had my name on it. I'm going to be more careful from now on. Thanks for clearing this up for me, Sang.

It's not just TM. On my MT tix for Chastain, there was a $12.97 Rolling Stone subscription with the same opt out requirement. I have not done anything and you only have 30 days from purchase to seek a refund. Today's the last day from purchase on 6-2 so I'm stuck. But the tix were good, so it's ok, I guess.

That really is a load of corporate BS!! You should never be required to ask for a refund for something you never ordered. And now you've really got ME thinking, 'cause EW started showing up in my mailbox maybe 5 months ago. I kinda figured it was tied to my Dish Network subscription, but now I'm not sure.

I got that last year, just expired, but I was under the impression that it was free. I even called ET because I couldn't figure out why it was coming to the house and was told it was complimentary.

Nothing irritates me more than these BS "opt out" scams. Oh wait, check that, Ticketb***ard irritates me more....

I agree it's bull$hit and it should be illegal. If many others find they were duped into this, legal action against TicketBastard should be threatened, if not filed.

When you buy something at Best Buy, they say 'your order makes you eligible for a free subscription for one of these 4 magazines' - but you can say 'no thanks' up front.

I'm in too if you want to contact the Attorney Generals Office. I think my husband may know somebody there. He's out of town but when I talk with him I'll inquire. These guys get enough of our hard earned money. '

I told them I was still waiting on the magazines from 3 years ago. They are clueless.

Definitely a BS racket! Keep us posted on what happens here - doesn't sound at all legal. Thanks for the warning - I'll be keeping a closer eye on these things in future.

Happened to be in a meeting today at work with someone from the Atty General's office. I explained this, and they also thought this was strange.

I have sent this person an email with all the communications I received, copies of the webpages, a scan of the postcard, copies of the charge breakdowns, etc. They are going to forward it to the fraud division to check it out.

I'll let you know if I hear anything.

This person did say that if enough people complain, they would definitely check into it.

I also noticed that Ticketbastard has redesigned the look of their pages, and the 'Additional info' box that explained this is now more noticeable - before it was in blue and not obvious.

OK - so it wasn't just me. Was out there yesterday getting some info from my account for this weekend and I thought things looked different.

I got a note back from the attorney general's office, that said that I was the first one to complain about this.

They are going to put this in the system for mediation (meaning they’ll call the company and let them know they’ve received a complaint). That might help speed up the refund. They’re also passing this along to another Assistant Attorney General in their office who is working on this type of issue so that they can build a record of these complaints and practices.

I told them I know others would complain if they knew the way to go about it. I am waiting to hear back on what the best way is, but you can call them at (800) 386-5438 or go to
http://www.illinoisattorneygeneral.gov/. There is a form you can fill out or a way to email them a complaint. I sent in copies of the Ticketbastard screens and a copy of the postcard I received.

The more complaints they get, the more they will do about it.

If you don't like this practice by Ticketmaster, make sure you let them know!

Don't currently have any Ticketmaster tix but do buy through them a lot so adding my thanks, too, Sang. Now I know to keep my eyes peeled for this in future and what to do if same happens to me.

We've all been hit with that EW scam. Must be a little box you ignore in your zeal to get tickets.
