In response to the "bands that have never had a personnel change" thread, I'm starting a thread about bands that have had personnel changes over the years. Just to name a few:

Red Hot Chili Peppers
King Crimson
Van Halen
Yes
Metallica
Steely Dan

Can you think of any others?

Rush. John Rutsey was the drummer on Rush's first album. Neil Peart joined when they recorded Fly By Night, and has been with them ever since.

I recently learned that the "ORIGINAL" Pink Floyd - before they recorded their first album, consisted of:

Syd Barrett
Roger Waters
Nick Mason
Richard Wright
and . . . Rado "Bob" Klose.

Ten Years After is currently touring without Alvin Lee. I think that takes the cake.

Hey, what happened to my long list?

I guess I didn't hit "post reply"

I ended up thinking of like 30 bands if not more and then realized, it was harder to come up with bands that didn't have personnel changes.

I'll try again...

Gov't Mule
The Derek Trucks Band
Fishbone
Blues Brothers
New Bohemians
Eagles
Supertramp
Chicago
The Beach Boys
The Black Crowes
Blues Traveler
Grateful Dead
The Police
Sea Level
Paul McCartney & Wings
The Dead/The Other Ones

Oh... I can't get the brainpower back.

Also, Police have been the same 3 people since their debut album. If they had other members it was before anyone had heard of them. I guess an extended breakup is one way to not change your lineup.

Genesis
Gentle Giant
Asia
Brand X
The Moody Blues
The Byrds
The Flying Burrito Bros
New Riders Of The Purple Sage
The Doobie Bros
Buffalo Springfield
Poco
Delaney & Bonnie and Friends
Little Feat
Peter Green Splinter Group
Heart
The Pretenders
Blondie
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

Yeah, The Police's original guitarist was named Henry Padovani. Andy Summers then joined, they were a four-piece for a VERY short time, they released a 45 or two in the UK, then Henry left.

Lynyrd Skynyrd, can't really call it Skynyrd now.
Molly Hatchett, who are those guys?
MTB, who are those guys?
Blackfoot, where's Rickey Medlocke
Bad Company, where's Paul Rodgers, oh wait he's back, Boz Burrell has now died.
Aerosmith, with and without Joe Perry
FREE, the Tetsu and Rabbit period at the end of the band.
Allison Krauss, Allison Brown replaced on banjo, lost was Jeff White, John Pennell, Mark Harman, Tim Stafford, lost was Adam Steffy.
YES, constant change
Stones, change
ABB

It's just a fact of life that band lineups change and very often for the better, and sometimes to the point of making us sick.

Yeah, I kind of like the two radio hits off of that album . . . and then on the next one, they got Palmer back, but Greg Lake was out. I think it was called "The Power of 3" or something like that.
