the problem I have with CDs is the amount of compression and total loudness that
goes into them during the mastering process. It makes for ear fatigue.

So I've been listening to vinyl or else higher resolution digital music (dvd-audio,sacd)

did ya all know the new NIN record is available in 24bit/96Khz format for download
for FREE.

I like this trend

The only time I listen to CDs is when I'm in my car. Mostly I listen to my iPod.

Kinda hard to watch a DVD while driving

And I dont think a turntable would work too well in a car

I always listen to my cd's in my car. At home I go with Sirius Blues 74 or vinyl or DVD's. Don't want satellite in my car, because then I wouldn't listen to all my cd's.

I listen to them in the car and at work.
I do have an ipod, but haven't made the transition yet.

I have too much that I'd have to load to the computer, then put
on the ipod. Just don't have the time these days.

I'm having a similar problem. Music overload, I guess. Plus aging. Seems to distract me driving. Plus all the great live music going on around here now....just not the same.

Interesting, I've been listening [and watching] music for + 45 years and my interest and enjoyment is simply growing!! I buy more CD's than ever. Listen to music at home and in the car. No MP3's for me.

I don't know why anyone would not buy a CD and download music instead?...the CD sounds dramatically better and you can play it on a good sounding stereo if you have one...also today I can get almost all new releases for 10 dollars or less, sometimes 7.99...each song costs a buck to download..makes no sense to me unless you are interested in only one particular song...what i end up doing is buying the CD..putting it on my MP3 player and playing the CD on my stereo

I'll be honest, since I've had an iPod and iTunes, i don't even buy CDs anymore. They take up huge amounts of space and create a ton of extra waste with all that plastic. Besides, you can get brand new releases these days on iTunes for $9.99 and most of the time they even come with digital packaging for the liner notes and what not. I find I listen to more music with my iPod then I ever did when it was just CDs.

Why would one pay 9.99 to download music when you can buy the CD which is much higher quality for the same price and always put it onto your IPOD as well?...makes no sense to me...

I have a friend that actually buys the itunes copy for 9.99 and when asked why he said i don't feel like going to the store. I looked at him and said going to the store is half the fun

I love going to a store with records and cd's - it's very dangerous for my wallet, though.

I buy cd's, vinyl, download, use an iPod, a turntable, a cd player, computers, play music, record music. So I do it all.

But if people keep ONLY stealing music, it'll eventually get to a point where people won't be able to make new music, because no one can afford it!

Don't get me wrong, I get copies of CD's from friends and other means, just as I did in the 70's & 80's on cassette and reel-to-reel. But I use it as a means to get a song or 2 I wouldn't've bought otherwise, or hear something that I might want to go out and buy.
