There are many personal threads here so here is one regarding my mother. She was admitted to a Hospice facility on Tueday. I've stayed with her the last two evenings. I was told tonight that she was bleeding blood clots from within her diaper. They told me she might not live through the night. I was not able to get my forty year old brother to meet me at Hospice and I left my mom in peace. She was sleeping.

Back in September or so mom was admitted into the Baptist Hospital here in Jacksonville, FL. She had an infected wound on her right foot. At the time the hospital was worried she might lose that foot. You see mom is a diabetic. She also was the recipient of a kidney transplant. That kidney has since failed. Mom's liver is also in partial failure now and she was on medication for a rapid heart rate, and St. Lukes has had trouble keeping her blood pressure up.

Mom had been at St. Lukes Hospital here for almost one month. She has been disoriented for the majority of her stay. She has an infection in the bone of the same foot. She cannot communicate intelligibly but mutters instead. Today she was pretty alert, all things considered. If mom had stayed at St Lukes today she would have had kidney dialysis. I made the decision to admit mom to Hospice and mom's adult friends agree that I have done the right thing. I resent my 40 year old brother's complete lack of helping me or my mom in any way. He did, however, help himself to mom's credit card a year or so ago. When mom passes on he will be responsible for that credit card debt because he name was on that credit card. I am hoping my brother will move into the house and help us to keep what mom and GOD have given to us. We shall see what is left after the medical bills have been payed. Mom has had good insurance with Bluecross and Blue Shield plus she gets either Mecicare or Medicade. I really don't understand any of this.

I have made arrangements for a simple cremation. My cousin is the executor of mom's will. I don't know what company mom has her life insurance with. Anyway, this is a stressful time for me right now. I'm a little bitter as some of you have noticed, and I don't need Kenny pushing my buttons.

Anyway, if you might, I'd appreciate some of you remembering my mother in your prayers. She has sufferred a great deal in the last two years and in the last 7 months especially. She has been bed ridden for the last seven months. She was in Specialty Hospital here two for 52 days or so. She declined rapidly at Palm Gardens.

The nurse at Hospice told me she thought my mom might go quickly tonight. The other nurse said as she came on that mom's bleeding had slowed a lot. Either way mom does not have long to live since the toxins in her blood are rapidly building and they will comprimise the reset of her functioning organs.

Remember my mother in your prayers if you will.

Thanks.

Dean, my prayers and thoughts to you. I've been exactly where you are....4 years ago this very day. I had doubts about admitting my dad to Hospice, but I know now that it was the right decision. If you need to "talk" about it, shoot me a PM.

Dean,
I'm praying for you and your family. Hospice is a wonderful service and I'm sure they will take very good care of you mom and make her very comfortable.

I had a similar experience with my brother when my mom was very ill and I had to shoulder everything. I think you just have to let that go. Just focus on your mom and do what ever you need to do to get through. Don't be afraid to ask for help or to come here for support.

Rhonda

Hospice workers are some of the most compassionate folks I've ever met. They will goive your mother great care, I am sure of it.

JR, I've been in your shoes. It's not easy, but it a journey most adults have to make at one time ar another in their lives. You have my most sincere empathy and sympathy.

Prayers for your mother's peaceful passage to the next plain of existance.

Thoughts and prayers go out to you Dean, and especially your mom, and family, I lost my mother to cancer in 1999, and she was also in Hospice, they really are comforting, and make it alot easier. You are a great son, and your mom is very fortunate to have you by her side.

JaminRebel - Please know your mom and you are in my thoughts and prayers this evening. Like others here, I also have gone through this with my mom - it's so hard. Do stay in touch here for the support you will need tonight and afterwards. Praying that your mom's passing is peaceful and that you know hospice is the right choice for you both. Don't know what I would of done without them...

Man , I 'm real sorry for what you're going through. Watching what a loved one is going through and not able to make the situation better . The most pain I ever felt in losing my mom . Looking at pictures of my mom and wondering what she was thinking but not able to ask her , I miss her.
Your mother and your family will be in my prayers .....

Hospice is the best place for one to spend their last days....no pressure for last ditch efforts for a cure, no neglect from health care workers who have to spend their time working for those who, well, there's no delicate way to say it.
I had first hand experience with my dear Aunt Ruth who was dying of breast cancer in the 80's when options were few. She passed with dignity at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. Hospice workers are earth bound saints as far as I'm concerned.
Prayers for you and your Mom. Know that you made the right decision.
