Do you even need to ask?

We just made reservations for Mr. B's on Saturday night God, I love that place!

I made up some minute-by-minute itineraries for Friday and Sunday at the Fairgrounds, I'll share them for everyone's amusement when I get home.

9 days and counting....

Found it! Here are my recommendations for Sunday May 4th, which is surely one of the most awe-inspiring lineups in the storied history of Jazz Fest.

11 AM--Festival grounds open. Get some Cafe Au Lait and beignets on your way in, then make your way to the Jazz Tent, which is right by the main pedestrian entrance.

11:30--12:30 The Thelonius Monk Institute Jazz Septet plays at the Jazz Tent. If you dig some Monk the way I do, this would have to be cool. I hope they play "Epistrophy."

12:30-1 Sonny Landreth is one of the best slide guitarists in the world, bar none, and his set at the Gentilly Stage is sure to be awesome.

1-1:30 Local Louisiana favorite Kenny Neal is at the Blues Stage, and this would be a good time to pick up some lunch. A Muffuletta sure sounds good...

1:30-2 Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk will bring the funk to the Acura Stage. Caution: This Music Is Extremely Funky. May Cause Dancing.

2:30-3 Galactic is such a logical segue from Dumpstaphunk, and even though the scheduling gods have them playing on opposite sides of the Fairgrounds at the same time, the only logical choice is to see some of both.

3:20-5 Santana at the Acura Stage is the Main Event for me. It's a shame they are on at the same time as other worhty acts like Rebirth Brass Band and Keb' Mo', but I doubt I'll be tempted to stray. Derek will come out to jam, the heavens will open, joy will ensue.

5-5:30 The Preservation Hall Jazz Band is playing at the Economy Hall Tent, which is practically on the way to the Gentilly Stage...

5:30-6 The Radiators always close out the Fest at the Gentilly Stage, and I want to catch some of their set. The beginning makes the most sense, because I definitely want to see the end of....

6-7 The Derek Trucks Band at the Blues Tent In one of the most high-profile solo gigs of his career, Derek and the guys will win a lot of new fans at this show, I think. At the end, Carlos comes out and they play My Favorite Things, the heavens open, etc. (See Santana)

Of course, that's just one possible itinerary. I didn't even mention Jack White's band the Raconteurs, or jazz diva supreme Dianne Reeves, or Snooks Eaglin, or the Wild Magnolias. Even if you can't do the full weekend, anybody within driving distance of New Orleans should at least come for the second Sunday.

Don't forget that Derek will be interviewed at 2:30 - 3:15 at the Allison Miner Music Heritage/Lagniappe Stage - between Dumpstaphunk and Santana's show. I totally enjoyed the interview with Elvin Bishop years back

For those going this weekend, be sure and check out Anders Osborne and Terrance Simien on Friday. Sunday, Egg Yolk Jubilee, Del McCoury (he also is being interviewed) and PETE FOUNTAIN.

I'm exhausted just looking at this years lineup!

Just posted this in Mr Yankweeds thread, but warrants repeat:

I'm missing the fest this year . Really my favorite. So much great music. I highly recommend catching Anders Osborne at any of the club gigs with his regular band. He's playing a bunch of gigs during the fest and one at the fairgrounds. Rob Johnson, have you caught a full fledged set from Anders? The band with Kirk Joseph on sousaphone and Tim Greene on sax, is not to be missed. Their brand of jamming hangs right up there with the big boys (Grateful Dead/ABB), yet has its own spirit and flavor and Anders can play slide with the best of them, in his unique way. I would love to see HTN do a piece on him, heck I'll write it if you want.

Also, if you haven't been to DBA on Frenchman St, it's one of the best newest additions to clubs in NOLA. Great beer bar, huge selection, Belgians, etc...usually always great music too. Also, forget about Acme & Felix's for oysters, walk two more blocks and hit Deanie's. Less crowds, much better food. Have some steamed shrimp for me, the best you'll ever have, so fresh, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Deanie's has always been a seafood institution, with their market/restaurant up by the lake, by the Meterie boarder. The restaurant in the FQ is a great addition.

We're in - Thur-Mon. Last weekend was a wet mess so we're hoping for drier conditions, but a good time will be had regardless. Another stellar lineup awaits.
