I have always wondered what else it is that ‘we do’ for fun. What is it that floats your boat when not talking/watching/enjoying the Allman Brothers Band extended family? I’m not talking about trips or one-time-experiences…. They are for another thread.

Do you raise prize goats in your spare time? Have you had an orchid named after you? Do you regularity walk the AT; even a through hiker? Are you a mountain climber? Are you a ‘Scrabble’ tournament master? Do you paint? Is photography your passion? Do you volunteer weekly at the local soup kitchen?

What is it you do when noone else is watching and you do because YOU want to?

I have run into folks on this site and we were able to connect through other interests. An example is Jtuna; he has a passion about Civil War sites but I would not have known that if we hadn’t communicated. I was able to show him Macon and some Atlanta battlefields once on a visit.

Tell us your passions….some of us share the same ones you do…let's not pass as strangers in the night.

I will start. I have jumped out of planes, rafted wild rivers, scuba dived shipwrecks, canoed swamps. The one thing many may not know about me is that I have ‘mud-in-my-blood’… I am a caver, NSS member since 1984. I enjoy going miles underground in 1” airspace wondering if I remembered to turn the gas off at home! The tighter; the better.

Come-on folks….what is it about you that would make us all smile and say “ Man, I never knew that!!”

Two photos of me enjoying my hobby...at the bottom of a rappel at Signal light Pit, Tenn. The other is me signaling back that the passage 'Does Not Go'.

Very cool...I've done my share of spelunking, but was really into cave diving for a number of years, some years ago....here in N Fla there are many, many freshwater springs to dive and IF you have the right training and gear, cave diving is very exhilarating.

Cool thread, will be interested in reading others posts as I am sort of in a slump on passions at the moment. You could say I am in search of my next passion.

For the last 15 years, it has been being my kids Dad and being a coach of Little League, basketball and basically doing everything my kids were into.

Back in the 80s I played your football, a founder member of the Newcastle (now Gateshead) Senators we were one of the original teams in the UK British American Football League. I can't stress enough what a low standard this was! Bad high school. Just a bunch of entheusiastic, self taught guys.
The team still exists tho' 22 years on where most of the clubs from that period are long gone........... Quite proud of that if I'm honest.

Nice! Looks like you know your craft!

I've been fascinated by all things World War 2 since I was 6 years when I watched 12 O' Clock High for the first time. I have quite a few books plus I've bought some pictures that include signatures of those who participated (Paul Tibbetts for one). I'm also a big college football fan (GO BRUINS!) that loves to tailgate.

Dan, I love to cook! Barbecue---and I don't mean grilling is my fav. I have recently discovered that I have gotten the fever to own a motocycle! (the wife isn't to fond of this one!) I love flying with my dad! (he is the pilot, and my parents live in a fly-in community.)

Started for me when I saw Sands Of Iwo Jima as a kid.. Hooked ever since.
I have a pretty good selection of books, and am fianlly getting around to "With The Old Breed' Amazing read.

Most history in general interests me, but WW2 in particular.

Having 2 teenage sons, and being a single dad, I love to have the boys invite their friends to a good concert. Music has been something we build the summers around. There is nothing in the world like taking a kid to his first show, watch the jaws drop open when a particular solo is played. Music is a gift I try to share in many ways. It keeps me close to my sons on a different level. We get alot of free shows here in Cincy. This year I'm really looking forward to a Dave Mason freebie. Charlie Daniels, Shooter Jennings, 38 Special, War, Kenny Loggins,Fuel, Eddie Money, REO Speedwagon are all playing free shows as well.

Some folks know that I am ivolved with my local Community Theater. This week we open an original musical Drama...William's Dark Lady. Set in the time of Queen Elizabeth, the story of a young Will Shakespear and the woman who inspires his Sonetts.

My brother in law wrote the show and my neighbor wrote the music.

Genealogy ... it appeals to the sleuth side of me that I
never knew I had. My family histories seem a ready-made
mystery that time has designed for me to come along and
solve. And it never stops ... every time you discover a new
"granma" in your line her maiden name joins your ever-
expanding family... a whole new blood line that needs to
be explored. I have traced many of my lines ... some as far
back as 1400's.
Of course ... everyone's pedigree is only as pure as the
bored whims of a granma somewhere back when.

Like several others, my interests include genealogy and collecting.
My big thrill is collecting old radio shows from the 20's to the 50's. Especially shows that involve
interaction with WWII soldiers.
I've got shows such as G. I. Jive w/GI Jill, Command Performance, USO shows, and many of the radio programs that would have been broadcast to the soldiers.
I have many of the original live broadcasts of the "Amos&Andy Show", "Inner Sanctum" , "The Shadow", and plenty of the old radio serial shows.
I also like to collect Bluegrass festivals, and computers.
