This is a cute story of animal rescue by two guys I work with.....

So I over heard a couple people talking about some baby ducks who fell into a storm drain in the office parking lot this afternoon. So I ventured out to see what was going on, sorry I love the animals, and wanted to see if I could help. Looking down the drain and counting I got to a total of 10 babies wandering aimlessly and crying for their momma, who happened to be really confused and angry. Dan was there and he decided to assist with the rescue operation and picked up a hammer and chisel and started to disintegrate the parking lot around the storm drain, I backed up 15 feet during this. After 15 minutes of smash happy Dan we finally were able to remove the grate, forcefully, and get a good view of the babies. Animal control was there and luckily they had a very large net, which fit perfectly into the drain, that we used to fish the babies in pairs from the 12 foot deep hole, I was not climbing down there as I like my shoes too much. We managed to get 9 of the 10 up relatively easily but the last 1 was all by himself and he wandered into the dark, since he could not hear his brothers/sisters. I found the last 1 at another drain across the lot. So our strategy was to put the box of 9 back into the hole, in the box people not just dumping them back in, so their cries could lead the last straggler through the dark tunnel and to rescue. We succeeded. So we took the 10 babies in a cat crate to the river at the side of the parking lot, with momma following the babies (isn't that the wrong order?) and let them out onto the river bank. The family was finally reunited.

Here is a picture I snapped when we had 9 of the 10 rescued.

Credit is also needing to be passed to the Roto Router guy and the man from Animal Control.
