OK a few days ago I saw a topic about overplayed classic rock songs...and this one certainly fits the bill. But I heard it today after not hearing it for quite a while and you know what - really enjoyed it.

But who cares what I listen to right? That's just preamble...The question is: Would you like to see them add this to the playlist? I mean if they can do Jessica and Liz Reed - why the hell not? I think the time has come!!!!

I wouldn't mind hearing Gregg sing Ramblin Man, but that would be like Dickey singing Melissa.

I saw them do it in 1996 in Toronto , with Dickey of course , but without DB , no way .
As for over played , I have not heard it on the radio in years . ( I live in Canada )

I have heard Gregg sing Blue Sky but Ramblin Man is just too associated with Dickey Betts. It just cannot be done.

Gregg would do a great Ramblin' Man

Iíve been down to Mississippi
Down through New Orleans
Yes I have
Iíve played in California
There ainít too much I havenít seen
No there ainít
Lord, Iím a rambliní man
Donít fool around with a rambliní man.

Left a girl in West Virginia
Up there where that green grass grows
Yes I did
Got a girl in Cincinnati
Waitiní where the Ohio River flows
Oh, girl
Iím a rambliní man.
Donít give your heart to a rambliní man.

You better move away
Your standing to close to the plain
Once I mess with the olí mind
Your little olí heart wonít be the same
But Iím a rambliní man
Donít mess around within your rambliní man.

You better not
Well, up in Chicago
I was known as quite a boy
Yes I was
Down in Alabama
They call me the man of joy
Still do
Well, Iím a rambliní man
Donít fall in love with a rambliní man.

You better move away
Your standing to close to the plain
Once I mess with the olí mind
Your little olí heart wonít be the same
Oh, Iím a rambliní man
Donít mess around with any olí ramblin man.

They play quite a bit of the ABB on the radio here in Ottawa. RM is one of the tunes that gets played often.

I've heard a Dickey-less Blue Sky too, but that does not make it right. No way on either one!

Great waylon tune, on the same albumn as midnight rider seems like it was called ramblin' man...My grandma had that on vinyl back in the day, lol.

It would be great to hear the brothers cover this, I'd also like to see them do willin' with gregg on vocals.

Gregg was uncomfortable singing "Blue Sky" and after the XM thing they dropped it.

I think Not doing songs that Dickey originally sang lead vocal on is the way to go.

I think that those songs don't work for me, unless Mr Betts sings them.
Doesn't have the right vibe.

Instrumentals he wrote or Songs he wrote that Gregg sang (like "Revival") should
still be done. This Band can still do them and keep the original vibe with it.
Jessica, IMOER, those still work for me. And this band does a great job on them.

Peace
John

Ramblin' Man is THE Dickey Betts anthem, the one song more than any other that the general public associates with him. If there is one Dickey song that this lineup should never, ever play, that would be the one, in my opinion.

I've never been a big fan of the song, like some on this thread, but the version on the 5/1/73 Archive show absolutely smokes! Made me take a second look at the song and appreciate it in a new light.

It was hands down the most viable and successful commercial airplay release ever by the ABB. It would be interesting to see the airplay royalty $ numbers annually, I don't see how any other ABB song could even come close. It is basically the only song that gets regular airplay once in a while anymore. Definite irony there on the ironymeter.
