As you may know Gov't Mule is performing a show at the Lisner Auditorium in DC. It is a nice, historic and acoustically perfect space for a rock concert. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster and my friend is selling a 10th row center, single seat, Warren's side for it. (IM me)

Then the next day (4-20) as part of the Green Apple/Earth Day celebration that takes place in 8 different cities DC will have a performance by both Warren and Gov't Mule, as well as other interesting artists.

Here is the lineup for the DC event. It starts at Noon and is free to the public and will be held on the National Mall.

* The Roots & Friends
* Gov’t Mule
* Toots & The Maytals
* Thievery Corporation (DJ Set)
* Warren Haynes Solo Acoustic
* Umphrey’s McGee
* DC Boys Choir
* CityDance

For more information go to http://www.greenapplemusicfestival.com

Here's an interesting photo I found when reading about the Lisner:

Andy Williams, Robert Kennedy, Perry Como, Ted Kennedy, and Eddie Fisher singing at a telethon at Lisner, 1968

Here's a nice photo of the National Mall advertising the event:

If you are in or around DC, come and join the festivities and make it a Warren weekend. Nice dates for that if you ask me. LOL.

I'll be there with bells on, but I gotta disagree with the discription of Lisner. Historic? It's a college auditorium. It's very small which will be nice. And acoustically it is wonderful...for chamber music. Now that's not to say that GM won't sound awsome, but they definately could be too loud for the space.

I think the big question will be how the theatre and staff adapts to this crowd. Not sure, but I don't think you can drink in your seat.

Rhonda,

I'll have to disagee with your "chamber music" comment. Back in the day, I seen many "shows" at the Lisners (Little Feat, Bonnie Raitt, Jerry Jeff Walker, Flying Burritos Bros, ect). Remember Little Feat recorded "Waiting for Columbus" at Lisner. And to many people, "Waiting for Columbus" rates right up there with the ABBs "Live at the Fillmore East" as one the best live recordings. As for "I don't think you can drink in your seat", I wish more theater type of venues would have the same rule. I know Wolf Trap has that rule inside the Filene Center and it makes it easier to enjoy a concert without someone "spilling beer all over you" and certainly cuts down on the "drunks at the show". Of course, Wolf Trap also allows people to bring their own food and beverages (including alcoholic beverages) and enjoy it out on the lawn.

Anyway, might try to make it down to the Mall for Earth Day.

CUH,

I think the acoustic possibilities are amazing...if they can get it right. Your right, the place has amazing sound. I've seen lots of shows in there, though admittedly the most ‘rock and roll’ has been Pink Martini. It’s just been my experience that when the music is loud and not well controlled – it’s a mess. The small size of venue only serves to amplify that – so to speak Seems like the perfect place for Bonnie Raitt.

I’m hoping for the best!

Yeah, it's another acoustically perfect venue which is a great thing if you're into quality sound.

I think the shift from the clubs to the theaters is a good thing for the Mule. You can't smoke in the 930 club either so why be in a sh*t hole? I don't know about the Lisner's drinking policy. Anyway, if it is a staid as you say, then maybe we'll get a different styled show than usual. I think Mule's ability to create a range of types of performances is what makes them an interesting band. They once did an acoustic performance in DC, maybe a few years ago.

Historic means a lot of different things. I find some of the 40's 50's and 60's architecture and building/interior design interesting and historic, even if not more than 100 years old.

Anyway, here's a link about the place. If it isn't the right place then, my bad on the link.
