what do you play them?

I know this being an ABB site, "AFE" or "EAP" will be on a
lot of lists. Not there is anything wrong with them.

But, really, what would you play as THE definitive?

My first thought would be to grab Chuck Berry's "The Great 28".

geeze....I'm not even sure how to define Rock N' Roll anymore.

First thing that popped into my mind though was London Calling by The Clash.

As we already sent them Chuck Berry's Johnny B. Goode on the "golden record" that was stowed on Voyager 1 and 2 , Chuck's The Great 28 would be my choice as well...

Does anyone remember the classic SNL skit that was broadcast shortly after the Voyagers were launched and the contents of the "golden record" was revealed?

The skit featured the cast as scientists huddled around a radio receiver waiting for the very first message to humankind to be sent by an alien race.

The alien's first words: Send more Chuck Berry !

Classic!

Well, if the aliens were hostile, that might convince them to leave us alone, as we weren't advanced enough to offer them any good plunder.

I totally agree, Chuck Berry is pretty much the quintessential RnR icon, as far as I'm concerned.

After that either Elvis' first RCA album or The Beatles' Please Please Me. Hopefully the aliens have good taste. I hope ticketmaster emailed them about the Beacon in May.

It does go back to how you define "rock & roll" I guess....
To me, rock and roll equates with rhythm and blues. That said, little if any Brothers stuff would qualify. Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bo Diddley....good choices. I like the Wet Willie idea too. And would include the Prisoners of Love. Woke up this morning to Tough Enough, gotta' include the T-Birds. That album just might be the definitive Rock and Roll. Maybe some Delbert too.

The 30th anniversary of Voyagers mission had a vote for music that you would send up, like the first on "The Golden Record"
