Hi folks.........

Have a story I heard yesterday.............. My last Great Uncle's funeral was sunday.....

96 yrs.

He was asked once ... " What is the greatist thing you have seen in your life time ? "

The Gravel Road................ Not pavement ...........Gravel...........

Asked why........... He said it was when he knew he could really travel.....

He was born here in Southern , Ill. which in his younger times most roads were dirt.....

He traveled to Chicago in the 60's...............Found some paved roads it looks like.....

Lived there till the 90's & moved home.......

So I guess if I were asked the same I would have to say the cell phone & the pc.....

Never thought I would talk to people all over the world & never leave where Uncle Henry had to wait for the gravel road before he could see what was outside the farm lands...

What would ya'll say.....?

I would have to agree with Mike on the PC....when I first started working in a PC support group back about 20 years ago I remember someone saying..a 10MG drive, what the heck would you need a 10MG drive for

At the time it was either a single floppy drive or dual floppy drives with maybe a 5 MG HD.

PC's definitely beat punch cards!!! (trained people to operate keypunch machines is a previous lifetime and oh my - dropping a deck of cards was a sure sign of extra work in your future...I remember being happy when paper tape replaced cards!)

My dad bought me a transistor radio in 1967.
I saw the Allman Brothers Band for the first time in 1972.

Transistor radios and FM stations.
Cars with air-conditioning and without running boards
.
Many women in professional jobs. Majority of women working.
A college education for most anyone who wanted it.

Grown children moving back in with parents.
Small family farms as a way of life and livelihood to big corporate
monster farming.

But the biggest changes have come from computers. I remember
using the key punch cards for classes in college. Then home computers.

And of course televisions in every home and cable TV.
I better stop here before y'all start thinking I'm old.

9-11. A significant attack on the United States. Not since the Civil War (or the Spanish American War? Don't know my history well enough to say for sure) has so much blood been spilled on our soil. There was before 9-11 and after 9-11.

Technology has given us so much in my 50 yrs. I could live fine without most of it, but not my microwave oven! Food in 3 minutes.

Speaking of "black and white" - how about the Civil Rights Movement?
