First off, Greg we're behind you 100%. Take whatever time you need to get well. We're all wishing you well, hoping for a speedy recovery, and anticipate your return.

Now that the ABB won't be headlining wanee, Here's my guess on how things will play out. (obviously with no idea what I'm talking about, or any facts to back it up)

I think Warren, Matt, Andy, and Danny step up on friday night rocking us for that 3 hour time slot. I've definitely got my fingers crossed.

Ratdog is the obvious choice to step in for Saturday night though not my first pick by any means. Handing the big stage over to Derek and Susan would be amazing with a late night moe. set.(only wishfull thinking) How about extending everyone's set by 30 minutes or so, even though I haven't thought about how this would work out logistically and financially.

What do you fine folks out there think is going to happen. I know we could wait for the official announcement, but isn't speculation half the fun?????????

First and foremost, best wishes to Gregg for reaching 110% ASAP.

Second, I'm not going to Wanee, so maybe my vote doesn't count.

Having said that, this obviously opens up time and $$$ on the schedule. Who, if anyone, would be good to get, on short notice like this?

Jimmy and Jack and the Prisoners of Love? The Tommy Talton Band? Delbert?

Twisted Sister has already agreed to fill in as headliner on Saturday.

Personally, I like the idea of Derek and Susan with SSR on the big stage. They DESERVE it.

Mule will headline. I'd be pleased to see Mule play Saturday also, with a ton of special guests.

Of course, Bupp's suggestion of The Prisoners of Love or Tommy Talton Band are perfect, too.

Anybody know where Chuck L. will be? Seems like if you've got Randall and Davis (Randall Bramblett Band) ... and if Jaimoe goes ahead and makes the trip ... why not add Oteil and have a SEA LEVEL REUNION?

Just a dream - pay me no nevermind!

I would love it if Derek and Susan got the main stage for Saturday night's closing set.

If you look at the revised 'Schedule' section on the Wanee site, it sort of gives the impression that Mule will headline Friday night ~ and Ratdog will headline Saturday night. Suddenly the Mule and Ratdog names are in larger, bold letters...

I'm not going to be there, so no one has to listen to me. But I think that the rest of the band should play and they just bring tons of guests from all the bands playing over the weekend. I mean, if its not a problem to get the rest of the band there to do that!

how about no... no allman brothers = no wanee. simple as that. That's like having a party at your house and leaving. I didn't pay 150 to see moe and ratdog and their fans. And I certainly didn't pay 150 for a 3 hour mule set either, if that were my motive, i would have gone to nye with them.

And Dave, I have to disagree with having SSR on the big stage... that just rules out all intimacy which the other stage provides.

The Thrill is Gone....

I guess I'm in a disagree mood today

All the best to Gregg and his process ad mist all this tension

If I had to choose between two options, I'd rather see the ABB w/o Gregg than all the other Wanee Bands combined for my $150.

I'm undecided... I didn't pay 150 to see moe, Ratdog, and Mule either... but I do want to meet everyone and don't want to miss out on anything cool that happens... If the DTB (not SSR) would headline Saturday it would make my decision easier

how bout just a big jam at then end of each night with whoever is available?

2 nights of super star jams?

I think it will still be a good party even without Gregg Allman. Hope he
can go as a fan if not a performer. Rest is best I guess

The bands are the focus, but it's up to the fans to make the festival fun.

It is too hard a trip for my back or I would be there.

I am really impressed and happy with some of the sentiments about keeping the Wanee tradition going and honoring Gregg by attending the festival and celebrating despite the fact that the Allman Brothers won't be there. Big Dave on Bass' post on another thread is particularly poignant.

And I applaud the band for not booking anything with "Allmans" in the title in lieu of the real thing.

I recall when Bill Monroe had to back out of MerleFest at the last minute in 1996 due to health issues, that year's festival became an (at times moving) celebraton of all things Bill. I am confident that those of you still planning on going to Wanee will do the same in honor of Gregg.

However, the reality of the situation is that attending these festivals is a tremendous investment of time, energy and money (particularly with gas prices continuing to rise), so I'm concerned that without some sort of replacement for The Brothers, many people choose to invest their time, energy and money in other things. Hopefully I'm wrong here, but the reality of the situation is that losing ABB from a festival like this makes it hard for many people to justify the costs of attending.

I propose that Wanee does something similar to what Allgood did last year. On their Saturday night, moe. played a set and then later hosted a long set with members of many bands on the bill coming and going. The set evolved through interesting covers, originals and an outstanding version of "Cortez The Killer" with Grace Potter on vocals. It was a very fun experience and one of the best demonstrations of jam-unity since the Jamband name was coined by Quincy Jones in the mid80s.

Couldn't Wanee have Ratdog or Gov't Mule host a similar set?

That way the festival would be offering something specific to their festival weekend, and something that could at times move into Allman-heavy areas without being booked as such.

Imagine the possibilities....

That's kinda what I'm hoping for, but all the guests would be centered around an ABB core. Guest vocalists aplenty, new covers, dust off some instrumentals...
