Just got done chatting with a friend who told me Wannee is going to be canceled because Gregg is very, very sick.

Worries me. Anyone around here heard anything? All rumor?

I sure hope not. I know he canceled a gig late last year, and there was speculation of hepatitis C. But I remember someone saying that Oteil said Gregg was doing great, so I hope that's still the case.

I think that official word would have gone out by now if this were true. Plus, I doubt the whole festival would be canceled if Greg couldn't go on!

I always find it funny that somehow so called "friends" know things before anyone else. These friends are very dialed in aren't they? My guess is Gregg will be there singing and playing his ass off as usual with the rest of the band. I'm just sayin', thats all.

DuaneFan56, I am with you! Nobody I have talked to lately seemed to lead on about anything, but how much they were looking forward to Wanee! At the Bighouse movie premier everybody was stoked!

I was not trying to start/perpetuate a rumor as much as ask a question. My only 'friends' are definitely in low places!

I don't really care to go into a he said/she said conversation at all, doesn't really matter either way. The one thing that got me thinking about this a little harder was rehearsals ending early and everyone splitting pretty quick, per the story about the C. Bruce show Saturday night. Maybe got me thinking a little too much.

I sure as hell hope nothing is wrong! And for the record I doubt anything is wrong. And I trust what I read here about the ABB more than a buddy calling me up with a little news. So flame on.

Hophead stated that rehearsals ended early in his C. Bruce review. Warren and Derek were planning on showing up at the C. Bruce show to jam but they skated out of town early.

This is a very tough one for me to opinionate on. There are many boundaries of privacy, respect, what one should guess, the right of everyone to make choices, and more. I have heard many rumblings in the wind over the years.... as others have.....

I'm a Hepatitis C Awareness advocate, as many know.

Getting treated for Hep C means taking a couple of years off from your normal life... one to treat and a year to recover, in a sense. Some people don't get treated because they have important things going on in life, and can't imagine putting all on hold. Hair, sounds crazy, but many don't treat because of the hair loss and thinning at the least. I'll admit, it was a big deal for me to get past. And many don't treat because of the horror stories.....

So Gregg..... Hep..... I have never heard more than rumours. I hope they are false. He does have the history, H and all..... like I did too. I just wish everyone would get tested, and at least try TX. It works, HALF THE TIME. The other thing is, nobody has to take on the role of poster child..... but please, we need better than Pamela Anderson. Naomi Judd is a hero and a winner and proud to inform....

I ramble. I mean to insinuate nothing...... but IF Gregg has Hep C, the best thing we as fans could wish for him is to QUIT TOURING, FOCUS ON HEALTH, GET TREATED IF POSSIBLE, and forget about making more money, forget about all the entourage that likely encourages him otherwise, forget about us greedy fans, and call it a great career until he is healed enoughto maybe roll it out again. I would much rather a cancelled Beacon to hear of GA starting TX, that would make me happier than any show. All the preceding was based on hypotheticals, conjecture, and what if's, please.....

No need to flame you. The problem is, as innocent as your question may have been it does sort of feed into rumors starting - that's the nature of the internet in general unfortunately. Why would you have trusted this guy saying that in the first place? Does he know anyone in the band? If not, how would he know anything at all?

Rumors surrounding the band seem to crop up this time of year anyway. We have read "about people hearing" that Derek and/or Warren will be leaving the band for the past 3 years now. Well, as you can see none of it was true. Warren and Derek are still here strong es ever - Brothers of the stage. In fact, the summer tour may be a bit more extensive than the past 2 years from what we here from "reliable" sources right here. All is looking pretty good if you ask me. Somehow, someway this great band and great group of guys always finds a way to keep it all together and get it done. You gotta love 'em for that.

I hate to disappoint you Drew, but I have nothing to say here.
Except that I love Gregg and wish him all the best. I think we
should listen to Bird72.

Drew, since when is a person stating an opinion or disagreeing with
you called "flaming"?

Bird, that's an excellent post!

Agree with Bird72 - hope Gregg puts playing on the back-burner and takes time to get better if he is that sick.

Wonderfully stated ,felt and said.... Nothing more to add... just perfect.... for anyone who has this HepC... take heed and listen to Tony.... get well, to enjoy life..not just go through life....
I love the ABB ( my ABB from the older days ) Please no need to start how much better they are today with Derek and Warren ) just wanted to say I wish Gregg Allman all the best... Please take action if action needs to be taken... surround yourself with people who really love you and want the best for you... We are all here to support you in an emotional way .... We all love you Gregg...

As a person currently going thru the tx, it definately takes all you have spiritually, physically, mentally. If Gregg is going thru this then Tony said it best. I state it a bit different:

Forget the tour, forget the entourage, forget anybody or anything that needs something from you and focus on yourself. Forget the fees if gigs gets cancelled. Forget what other people will think, say, complain about. If you can't say no, then for you Gregg I will send an impenetrable suit of armor including a 12 foot jousting sword.

Hopefully this is all just crazy rumors, but if not then Gregg please stay home!!!!!!

I agree. If you think it may have affected you, then you should get tested and listen to your doctor. A very very good friend of mine shared a needle ONCE in the late 60's for the one time she tried heroin and many, many years later she learned she was positive for hep C. She has stayed away from alcohol completely and has regular check ups and gratefully, she hasn't progressed.

I think that Gregg has a right to privacy so that any speculation is just that. If he felt like he wanted to make anything public, I am sure he would do that.

Since Wanee is only 17 days away, I would say that Josh's friend heard wrong. I hope so anyway.

If Gregg is facing anything like this, I am 100 % sure he would get complete support and well wishes from the fans.

I agree, they wouldn't be loading up the calendar and planning on a full summer tour if Gregg wasn't up to it. Just the same, I hope Gregg is well and happy and ready to rock!!

I disagree in that anything is possible.

There is bad history in the area of managers, "friends", associates, band memebers pushing musicians past the point of common sense, health wise. When you have very large numbers of people making paychecks, what advice are they going to give. Two PRIME examples of artists being pushed to produce when the should have been told to heal and seek help: Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin, both were prodded and manipulated right to the end.

I'm not saying this would happen in a "peachy" world. But we are talking basic human motivators here, survival (paychecks), greed (big paychecks), and ending a carreer if the machine halts, even temporarily. Would people advise otherwise? Of course they could, maybe would, and not to recognize this is not recognizing basic components of why people make choices they do.

So Dave, I like ya bro, but to say they "wouldn't" isn't something that is a given. Money, the great corrupter....

We all hear rumors, etc. I suppose....

It occurs to me that there may be several of the old inner circle that may have to face this at some point....would it be an idea for all who need treatment to do it at the same time? Maybe together? Might make it easier on all. Get it fixed, move on.

Take all the time you need too, guys....we'll be here when you're done. You never leave your first love.

I think this rumor of Gregg being sick and Wanee being canceled can be rebutted on its face. We know ABB was rehearsing until late last week, and then broke a day early. Assuming Gregg fell ill on Fri (hope not), I cannot imagine a decision to cancel Wanee could be expected to so soon following that occurrence. I am sure before such a major decision would be made, that study of his prognosis and fest cancellation consequences would be made which would take some time. And as someone said, even if Gregg could not attend Wanee, it's unlikely the whole fest would be cancelled anyway.

I prefer to think the ABB declared themselves tight and decided to get to their homes for a nice Easter break. If anyone needs to not play one unscheduled night, it's Messrs D Trucks and Haynes.
