I have had a radio show at my high school for a little while now. I was wondering if anybody had any ideas for some themes for the show. It needs to fill 1 hour. Some themes I have done are Gibson Les Paul, Fender Strat, Hammond B-3, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees.

Thanks for any help,
-DTfan

Seriously. I have a friend who does a weekly program for a local indie station which is called Women Who Rock. It's great! She highlights music by an assortment of female musicians. If you need some examples, how about Janis Joplin...Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders...Susan Tedeschi...Bonnie Raitt...Joni Mitchell...Patti Smith...Rickie Lee Jones

In fact - out of curiousity I googled women in rock & roll and got the following list if you need help in coming up with some names yourself...there are 100 listed here.
http://www.vh1.com/shows/dyn/the_greatest/62166/episode_wildcard.jhtml?wild card=/shows/dynamic/includes/wildcards/the_greatest/women_list_full.jhtml&a mp;event_id=862765&start=81

Good Luck !

disclaimer: the above list was just provided as an example to get you thinking about women in music. I am not saying I agree with list, just using it as food for thought.

IPowrie mentioned artist tributes...how about decade tributes (music of the 60's, 70's, etc).

Great idea. Shemekia Copeland does a Woman of the Hour every Saturday on Sirius Blues 74, and it really rocks.

I will take the Women Who Rock into consideration. The decades idea is also a good one. I would love to do an Allman Brothers/DTB show.

How about Blues Styles - Chicago Blues, Texas Blues, Memphis Blues, Delta Blues...or maybe split a show and show contrast between Chicago and Delta blues stylings.

Cover Songs

Songs with the same name but differnt songs

One of the NYC jocks used to do an Old, New, Borrowed and Blue set everyday.

Look at the Fillmore Preservation Page and do songs from the bands from the shows on specific days.

the local classic rock station here in buffalo does a show every friday, called barrel of monkeys. the concept is that each song played, starts with the last letter of the last song played.... so like they play a song & they take requests to play the next song, which has to begin with the last letter of the last song played.

On the first Saturday of each month, WXPN ("member supported radio from the University of Pennsylvania") has a show called "Highs in the 70s" so of course, all songs are from 1970-1979. The past few months they've been doing it alphabetically. I think the next show will be K or K and L.

How do you even put audio on the internet? As say a podcast.

Well, since that was the week I got back from vacation, I did a vacation recap show. Also took a tour of WXRT studios here in Chicago and talked about that. I'm going with lolasdeb's idea of women that rock for the show this Thursday. Should be interesting. I did set up a blog for my show, so if you know how to stream music on those let me know. It is http://theaustinswanshow.blogspot.com

I had to take out all the music because of copyright laws. Enjoy!

I was thinking live recordings. It would be cool if I could play taped shows.
