Duane played a lot of music in his less than 10 year history. What do you think is his best solo. Just one..no need to list a page full. Can be with ABB or any artist.
I realize there are so many that could be, hard to pick one.....I would have to
go with his Whipping Post from LAFE. Only because it's my favorite song. I could sub in
any one of about a dozen songs in my head.....Jammin' for Duane.

I will have to go with Dimples from Live at Ludlow Garage. Everything he did was great.

"Dreams" studio version is perfection. As for live stuff, his "Third Stone From the Sun" sequence on "Mountain Jam" is a favorite of mine as is "Stormy Monday".

Liz Reed AFE. Absolutely perfect, every note builds a little more tension until the climax.

I love his solo in the new Mountain Jam that everyone is still trying to figure out the exact date it was performed in Atlanta in 1970. Also his solo in Hey Jude is great too.

This is a really tough call. But, if I had to pick just one..... lol ok FINE It's a tie, The Second Half of Mountain Jam after Berry's solo, and Dreams.
Of course, I will reconsider this decision over and over and probably will edit this post several times lol

I can't narrow it down to one song, but I can narrow it down to one album. I'll give you three guesses which album, and the first two don't count.

Well, that's almost impossible, but I think I would go with his half of the studio version of "Blue Sky". It says so much, so simply, short and sweet.

Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad? from the Layla album has some of Duane's best playing, in my opinion. I always want to throw that out there in this discussion, because it usually gets overlooked compared to all the other great Duane solos.

Damn, I couldn't make up my mind on that 5 fav band thread, now this.

Every solo he did was a masterpiece, but for me I'll say Liz Reed solo on LAFE, electric guitar virtuosity at its best. Been listening ALOT t0 12-31-70 dreams, melodic melodic...

FE Liz Reed. I've listened to a lot of the old jazzmen, but never heard nothing this spontaneously creative. Best solo anybody ever did before a live audience, IMHO.

I agree. I have always loved that solo. I also like Duane's work in the very beginning of the song where he just explodes out of the gate.

I also love his solo from "You Don't Love Me" from LAFE. His turn-arounds in that song were pretty intense...It's like the Blues on steroids. I love Derek for many of the same reasons I love Duane. They can take perceived simplicity and turns it into the most beautiful chaos your ears have ever heard. Only the true greats can really do that...Duane and Derek.
