The order changes around, but I haven't changed my Top 5 in 15 years.

The Allman Brothers Band
Santana
The Meters
Col. Bruce Hampton and the Aquarium Rescue Unit
The Grateful Dead

I could easily listen to nothing but those five bands, and often do for weeks at a time

This will get harder as I go further down the list.

Alphabetically,

ABB
Pink Floyd
Yes

see . . .

I'll stop there. The field opens up pretty wide after those three . . .

Yeah, I'm with you guys, can't limit it to 5...and even THIS list could be a WHOLE lot longer:

Allman Bros Band (individually & collectively)
Beatles (individually & collectively)
Eric Clapton (includes Yardbirds, Mayall, Cream, Blind Faith, D&tD, etc)
Fleetwood Mac (individually & collectively, all incarnations)
Little Feat
Rolling Stones
Leon Russell
Santana
Traffic
ZZ Top

Oh, did I mention "in alphabetical order"?

And, pretty much anybody "blues": Three Kings, Buddy Guy, Wolf, Muddy, Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker, etc.
