God, I wish I had the money.

Let us not forget that Trucks and Santana will be in town, too. That could make for one or two very special sit-ins.

This from the band's myspace:

On Friday, May 2nd and Saturday, May 3rd, Gov't Mule returns to New Orleans for the 10th straight year for two special shows at the Contemporary Arts Center as part of Superfly during Jazzfest 2008. New Orleans holds a place in the band's heart and has been the site of many extraordinary and historic shows, including The Deepest End. The band has a few tricks up its sleeve to celebrate the fifth anniversary of that show and its first 2 night run in town since Hurricane Katrina. Further info will be announced shortly.

Tickets will go on sale through Mule Ticketing on Wednesday 3/19 @ Noon Eastern.

The second weekend of Jazz Fest this year might be the best weekend of Jazz Fest ever.

Yes, I said it! High praise indeed, but what else can you say about a weekend where you have Stevie Wonder and Santana at the Fairgrounds, plus all the great night shows like the Mule?

It's a shame the Contemporary Arts Center is so far from Tipitinas. Maybe I can catch the Mule on Friday and head over to catch the second half of the Radiators at Tips.

On Saturday night, I'll probably see Toubab Krewe, Derek Trucks, the Funky Meters, and the Greyboy Allstars. I'll need to pace myself and make sure to leave something in the tank for Sunday, when Derek and Santana play the Fairgrounds.

I can already see that I won't be able to make every show I want to see, and there is no higher compliment for a festival.

God, that sounds fantastic. I had every intention to make it this year. I just will not have the money or the energy after Wanee and two nights of Santana/dTb in Atlanta. Not to mention gearing up for NYC come mid May. Enjoy it Rob!

The fact that they are doing a Friday show really makes my 3-day Jazzfest excursion so much more exciting. I'd already made the decision to see dTb and the Funky Meters on Saturday night, so I thought I'd have to skip Mule if they did Sat. only. Now I get Mule on Friday AND dTb on Saturday. I'm am so freakin' psyched!

Only reservation I have is that the Mule venue is getting CRUSHED over on the jazzfest boards. Seems CAC is one of the worst live music venues in NOLA. Sounds like the acoustics suck and its a terribly uncomfortable place to see a show. My favorite comment was, "It did feel dangerous, and packed like a handful of pennies in a sock!"

Either way, I'm there.

I was not happy with CAC, but dealt with it b/c it was Gov't Mule. Since the theaters aren't back, there really isn't a place for Mule. It's hot and small. If you stand behind the soundboard, the sound is muffled. IF you stand in the massed you are packed in like sardines.

Hey Ang how are you doing? I just got 2 tix today for the Mule in New Orleans for 5/2/08 in spite of the nonstellar venue. Of the 4 Jazzfests I have attended ,I I have caught the Mule at all but one. That was last year and I sold my Mule tix and went to Derek with the Funky Meters. No regrets on that one. That show was the highlight of my Jazzfest last year. But now I can contine the Warren tradition and still see Derek and his Funky friends since they are playing Saturday 5/3. This year will be the 5th anniversary of the Deepest End Concert at the beautiful Saenger Theatre, which was certainly one of the best shows I have ever seen.
Hard to top that one but I look forward to Warren and the boys once again bringing it on in the Big Easy.
