Wow! What's a boat ride like this go for? How much (in dollars), I mean?

I have always wanted to go. Don't they have a graduated ticket plan, meaning, your first year your room is in the bottom bowel of the boat, the next year they move you up a floor, and you move up a floor each year????

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Do they have a rate for a dinghy?

RUSTY!!!

I have friends that do this Cruise every year for many years now. There is some type of wait list usually and I think the folks that have been going get priority rooms.

A rockin boat, for sure. The crowd is partying crowd. There's fantastic fun, incredible music, tropical locales and encounters with some fine musicians that you wouldn't normally get to have. JFC still comments on how cool it was to encounter Little Milton coming off the elevator and my greeting him with a "Hello Guitar Man" and watching his face light up in a big ol' smile. Little Milton played with the Brothers a few months later at the Beacon...and then he was gone.

There are crowds of people that do this every year. It's like a Beacon pre-show party feeling at sea. You can tell the folks that have been doing this since they were an itty, bitty boat. People from all over the globe that see each other for a week out of every year and have a blast.

RottinPeach - You don't automatically get 'bumped' based on your attendance history. It's you deciding how much you want to spend on a room. Are you only going to shower and take a quick nap from time to time? Then you buy the lowest fare. Lots of people do this after attending a few times. They realize if they can handle being out and about on the ship for all hours, the room is really just good for the bed. You'll notice those are the cabins people grab first.

Some people don't even get off the ship when in port. There is still stuff happening on the boat and some use that time to sleep a bit. Getting off the boat is never on their agenda.

Anywho...it's a fun time - sometimes it felt like we weren't in quite the right spot all the time and may have missed some impromptu performances that we heard about after the fact - but you get a schedule with who is playing where on the ship and you sort of go by that. If you can remember what day it is, it helps. It's not that easy!

Debbie downer disclaimer: Beware of Cruise Crud. I got the upper respiratory thing on my second blues cruise and it is not for sissies! It makes it way through the ship pretty quickly and JFC thought he was in a kennel with all the barking going on. it ruined me for cruises.

Thanks, Jeanne!

I was hoping either you or John (or both!) would share your Blues Cruisin' stories.

Thanks

Thanks for clearing that up Jeanne. I wish I had the extra funds this year to do it. It sounds like its a blast. If I win the lottery, I am there.

PS.....if I do win the lottery, I will lease our own boat, book our favorite bands, and everyone is invited. Now back to reality.....lol

Beware of the bar bill, too!! Heh...it's a 'cashless society' and everything just gets added to your room - even tips. This keeps people lubed up pretty good and not quite able to do the math. On our first cruise we overheard a woman on day 3 claim they were up to a $1500 bar tab! Yikes! That's where they can really nab you.

You used to be able to buy alcohol duty free on the ship and bring it back to your room. JFC and I bought bottles of Tanqueray Ten and would order tonic and ice from room service. We'd fill up our handy HollandAmerica cushy cooler cups and hit the decks. Since those cooler cups hold about a half gallon we were ready for a pit stop in the room when it was replenishing time.

You can no longer buy duty free and bring back to the room. They hold it until you get off the ship.

A little bit of wisdom I picked up by cruising - the scopolamine patches people wear behind their ears for seasickness also double as a hangover prevention.

How much will it cost? Am I just not seeing the prices? Has everyone pre-booked without knowing how much it'll cost?
Any insight appreciated.

And if you and I hit the lottery at the same time (fat chance since I have never played it... ), everyone on the roll call gets free airfare to and from...And I just might book the ABB just for kicks.....
